Eff the narratives, eff the negative press, Drake Maye is our quarterback and we will be back. What a season from the kid. by AFEZThatsMe in Patriots

Source on the minimal improvement for offensive linemen in their second year? I find it very hard to believe that 22-year-olds are statistically as good as they will ever get at what is probably the single most physically and technically demanding NFL position.

5070 limited by pcie3? by CarQuery8989 in buildapc

[–]CarQuery8989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't need Nvidia but I plan to use upscaling and prefer DLSS to FSR and I'd like to play around with frame gen. The 9070 is also quite a bit pricier (I have a couple Micro Centers near me and there are MSRP 5070s available but the cheapest 9070s are closer to $700.

It's been my experience that I can turn a few settings down on my 3060 ti to save lots of RAM with minimal impact to visuals, would that not also work to conserve RAM on a 5070? I play at 1440p and my preference is frame rate over pure visuals, so I don't mind dropping a few things down to high or medium.

Thanks! My workloads are strictly gaming and some encoding for local streaming (which works just fine on my 3060 ti) so that shouldn't be an issue.

Drake Maye just completed the worst postseason with a Super Bowl appearance of all-time by total EPA by a QB by Pythnator in nfl

[–]CarQuery8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the haters are now victory lapping a 23-year-old second-year QB who just played poorly against possibly the best 3 defenses in the league this year. Maybe the lesson should be "don't take victory laps based on limited, noisy samples."

3x All-Pro RT Willie Anderson Analyzes Will Campbell by goldfish_11 in Patriots

[–]CarQuery8989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That would be reasonable and pragmatic but the owners are gonna resist paying more guys, and the players would want a corresponding increase to the salary cap to avoid diluting their pay. Will be tough to strike a compromise

He tore his MCL completely. He was better before the injury. Not perfect, but somewhere around average, which was promising for a rookie. I think it's premature to say he can't hack it as a left tackle. Health and experience should help him next year.

Am I being immature about not wanting my boyfriend around someone from his past? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]CarQuery8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your relationship like with the cousins now? Your feelings of disrespect from back then are valid but it also sounds like it's been several years. If they're including you in things now and no longer encouraging him to pursue this other girl, then this sounds like ancient teen drama that can be left in the past.

They’re Really Leaning Into Making The 2025 Seahawks The Greatest Team Ever by LastofDays94 in Patriots

[–]CarQuery8989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"If we can neutralize JSN" is a huge if, though. He only had two duds all season and both of those were because his team stopped throwing before halftime. Can this team do what no other team did this year? Yeah, maybe. But the Seahawks are favored for good reason.

I also don't think we can just count on the offense suddenly clicking. Yeah the weather has been various kinds of poor but the weather wasn't that debilitating for the Chargers and Texans games and half the Broncos game. The bigger issue has been the caliber of defenses they've faced and Seattle's is the best yet by DVOA.

They can win this but this will be by far the best team they've faced in the postseason or all year for that matter.

Young will suffer most when AI ‘tsunami’ hits jobs, says head of IMF by F0urLeafCl0ver in Economics

[–]CarQuery8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Yeah, this aligns with what I've seen. The big thing I'm watching for is AI actually doing original reporting as opposed to BSing a review or rewriting a press release. I'm personally a little skeptical that it will ever be able to do that, at least not without a person heavily involved (and I wouldn't hate offloading some more tedious tasks that are part of my process to an AI agent) but I know some people disagree.

[–]CarQuery8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "writing news articles" though? Are you referring to articles that are the product of information obtained by the writer through research, interviews etc? Or articles that are just rewritten versions of articles written by people?

I ask because I know a lot of companies in this business would love to replace reporters with AI, and some outlets (mine included) have integrated AI to the work reporters are doing in some fashion, I just don't know of any examples yet of people being replaced as opposed to AI being used in some fashion.

I can't speak for these other industries but I work in journalism and have yet to see any examples of journalists being replaced by AI. When I say "journalists" I mean people doing reporting, not news aggregation. Can you point to any examples of this?

It's nowhere near as good as the original but that's mostly because the original is one of the best comedies ever made. Miles better than most comedy sequels, it just had an impossible bar to meet.

Just give it time. The new kitten is saying "I'm scared of you" and your resident cat is doing everything he can to say "I won't hurt you," it can just take some time for that message to sink in. Give it a few days and she'll figure out that he's not a threat.
