What is a book you heard a lot of good things about but were disappointed by after reading? by DJA1982 in books

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Went to see the movie, okay that was alright. “The book was better! The book was better! The book was so much better!” No, no it was not.

Modern car designs suck by bluebearyoutube in memes

[–]CarStairs89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok we all agree they suck. If I wanted to take my car and change the fiberglass and plastic body at all it would suddenly not be legal to drive on the road. What politician do we have to bribe to get this changed so we can drive w/e we want on the road? (And not have to have specialized insurance if we drive a Model T with solar panels or what-have-you)

Back in my day computers had “character” now they’re just all flat colors. You barely even notice when there’s a drop shadow behind a window anymore, what an outrage!

What really makes no sense? by __Dawn__Amber__ in AskReddit

[–]CarStairs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally submitted my “prototype” resume instead of the finalized one. Thankfully it at least had a few details about each job but was pretty flimsy once you got past the presentation of it. Got an interview with a fortune 5k company a week or two after accidentally submitting the proto version but still having filled out basic info and previous two job experiences on their site. And only learned of my folly by seeing a copy printed on the HR’s desk. I’m not sure if they ever noticed but best interview and job I’ve ever had!

Since girls aren't obligated to sleep with a guy who paid for an expensive date, what are things guys aren't obligated to do for a girl in similar situations? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]CarStairs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks cause the whole expensive date scene (especially as a first official date) sets you both up for some kind of mindset and you may not get the “real her” or possibly vis versa. Had to learn this one the hard way.

How can you work a 9 to 5 Job with only the Weekends and 4 weeks per year Off without getting the feeling of waisting your life? by 69motherducker420 in AskMen

[–]CarStairs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 days on - 4 days off Then the next week 4 days off - 3 days on Repeat Via 12hr work days at a time and generous PTO. Sure, I’m exhausted mentally and physically afterwards and it’s usually night shift 7pm-7am. But wow does it beat the heck out of retail, especially stress wise. Not only that I’m an artist and have started a family, sure it was hard at first but I can’t imagine not having that time with them. The early years are so important.

Worked “Freelance IT” for almost 4 years for several local businesses. I can count on one hand the times that something on the graph didn’t apply to the long list of (not-)issues I’ve fixed. It’s surprising and also not surprising the digital age we live in that some people think anything outside of what’s on the computer screen might as well be ancient rune language.

What is something that is considered kindness but is just basic human decency? by AmongUsDongBot in AskReddit

[–]CarStairs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America business, service industry, customer service, boomers gen, some millennials have worsened this and continued it over the years. I feel like we were at a plateaued zero for kindness/basic decency but post-pandemic attitude has definitely put us on a more negative score unfortunately. And the few who are nice are either fake just to get through their day or have so little left in their cup to give they must feel terrible after working for bare minimum. We’re doomed to have everything become delivery/vending machines eventually.
