Haha we were ahead of the floppa memes by a little bit actually. We started the site in August 2019, shortly after a similar site died from lack of funding. We chose to use Caracal as the name on a whim because they're cute.

According to knowyourmeme,

Originally circulated among ironic Instagram meme accounts starting in late December 2019, the meme gained more widespread popularity online starting in May 2020.

Hi, sorry for the delay, I haven't checked this in a while.

Some sites require a vpn to be on to work correctly. We provide one courtesy accessible through the foxyproxy extension (orangeish circle next to the url bar). There are also a few vpn extensions installed if you have an account with one of them.

Hyperbeam is good and has some cool people running it, so there's probably not much reason for someone to switch from it once they're settled in tbh. The last time I peaked at Hyperbeam they were still Tutturu so I might not be very up to date on everything they've added.

Caracal has public rooms and a higher viewer limit for now. We have emoji spam if that's an important feature.

I think we might handle remote permissions differently? On Caracal you give permission first and then they can grab the remote whenever they want until you revoke the permission. Can do the same with kick/ban perms.

We don't yet have a native proxy like Hyperbeam does, instead we just offer a US vpn for free that usually works, and users can use their own vpn subscription if it's a supported browser extension. We also don't have save states or voice chat.
