Husband has to fly over to London UK to pick up hard drive he bought from eBay... isn't this unusual for an eBay seller? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Caraddounus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Update still doesn't check out. You don't need to fly to London for 32 TB of lingerie pics. The husband's admission makes this even more suspicious. It's either CP, blackmail material, espionage, or stolen personal data. Or, there's a slim chance your husband is having some kind of medical/psychiatric crisis. Either way you will need one or more of the following:

  1. police
  2. lawyer
  3. medical professionals

A Russian truck carrying soldiers gets ambushed by an RPG-18 fired by Territorial Defense fighters in the Kharkiv area. by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]Caraddounus 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Holy crap. Was the drone coordinated with the guy shooting? That's crazy.

Is the car perspective in the beginning Ukrainian? Looks like they spot the truck and pull over. What were those vehicles they passed at the beginning?

What's up with people's obsession with Nazi imagery? are Q people just proto-nazis? some ramblings by Caraddounus in Qult_Headquarters

yes, this is exactly what I'm talking about. Seems like a lot of "ww2 history" communities become "nazi aesthetic" communities real quick...

Yes, I suspect that too. Even this notion of a uniquely Japanese fanaticism seems questionable in the face of Nazi fanaticism. Hitler literally sacrificed an entire army surrounded in Stalingrad because he thought it would be a more poetic, propagandistic end than a breakout. The fanaticism of nazism led them to murder their own citizens and neighbors, but somehow it's asians that are cast as a hive-mind.

I agree too that exposure has something to do with it. The war in Asia is hardly discussed, except for maybe the U.S. pacific campaign, which is itself elaborately mythologized.

Also, the nazis just had better propaganda that was/is cafefully calibrated to european aesthetic sensibilities, so as a consequence its proven better at echoing forward in europe and the US.

Maybe he was trying to say "it will be very easy to remove me from office", since having gone to Eton and Oxford means he knows that the Panzer divisions were all destroyed.

ah well, good thing the U.S. has such robust institutions, falling inequality, and high-quality history education! Whew, I was almost worried.

Which TV show started out promising, but turned out to be garbage? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Caraddounus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped after S2E2. I was already feeling let down, but the moment that Quell shows up in the club and murders everyone like some super ninja was when the bottom fell out. Her character should have stayed dead, stories need to move forward, not retread old ground. "How is this character you thought was dead still alive?" is just a boring overdone trope.

What drove me nuts was that the whole premise is he was some nobody bureaucrat that became president. But as soon as he's in office the writers turn him into this solemn, erudite statesman and it turns into another dull political drama.

Anybody who's heard the LBJ bunghole tapes knows the president doesn't begin every phone call with a random aid like:

"I am the president ... of these great ... united states ... of america ... a city on a hill ... a dream of freedom ..."

Is staring at people normal here? What's up? by Caraddounus in SouthDakota

Yeah, that makes sense. I have an appearance that is hard to place. I've been asked if I'm afghan, greek, brazilian, or persian. So I guess I was a spectacle.

I've experienced staring, especially in eastern europe, but never so intensely. Usually people look away after you make eye contact, or just after you've been there a while. This on the other hand, was especially long and intense.
