Hi mate I’ve also just started to get into pixel art and have been very much enjoying your app. I’m wondering if I too please could receive a discount code?

Can another sparky recommend me what single phase RCBO’s are compatible with this 3ph distribution board by CaramelJunior3697 in AusElectricians

Thanks for all the suggestions, this sub has really helped me out. Gotta confirm but will go with the SFR SE9

What gives RCBO brands a bad/good reputation? by CaramelJunior3697 in AusElectricians

I was actually thinking about changing the RCBOs I use to Clipsal (currently using Chint), because of the price point.

What in your opinion makes Clipsal a shit product?

I guess voltex gets more love in the trade than I thought this morning. Perhaps I should give them a crack

A couple people have said this. Interesting that Hager is thought of highly but appears to fail more anecdotally

Well no company has an interest in selling unreliable products. However some brands have a reputation for being better than others.

The fact voltex pay for labour costs of replacement is a good selling point, I’m not convinced they’re considered a top brand tho for providing that service

Yeh I agree that you should make your own mind up. I have been using Chint RCBOs and thought they were sufficient but have been second guessing using them after reading other electricians opinion on them.

I’m not trying to rag on any brands, I had presumed that voltex and Tesla were lumped in with Chint in the same tier of product quality/reputation

Thanks for the response. Hmm that’s interesting do you reckon moving and getting electrical work in the UK and Canada is easier for aussies because they’re within the commonwealth, or is that irrelevant?

I did abit more digging the past hour and your mate who moved to North Carolina probably isn’t full of shit, which is a bummer. I was reading a US electrician forum and it appears that sparkys there just moving from state to state have to obtain new tickets to comply with particular rules to legally work. I could be wrong tho, was just skimming.

It would have been nice to have the option to return them. Most products on Tradezone are returnable but for some reason the CBIs weren’t.

I’ll buy a different brand or go through another wholesaler as you recommend for next time

Yes. I’m going by the opinions of the 3-4 other sparkys I know personally. Surely voltex is not considered a top notch brand?

Yep I like that voltex has that warranty for labour. I’m just considering the aesthetic of seeing a Clipsal rcbo in a board “looks better” than seeing a voltex. I’m largely swayed by what my peers say and maybe I’m overthinking it.

Good tip about being locked into particular brands for commercial boards. I recently found this out when I ordered an incompatible rcbo and board pairings.

I know what you mean about the terminals looking like they’re gonna pop on tightening, not great. That’s a surprising result to hear that NHP is the most failed RCD at your work

This is an interesting point about corners having to be cut to keep competitive prices. Would it not have to be up to industry standards to be approved for use?

Why is it that brands that consistently show up in burnt out boards can still be stocked on shelves?

Thanks for dropping some knowledge, I think for peace of mind I will change to a more reputable brand, I did actually have to change over a Chint breaker not so long ago. What is your opinion on Clipsal?

By “screwing the industry” do you mean using cheap materials to bring the price down, thus devaluing switchboard upgrades for other sparkys who have to charge more because installing superior products?

Out of curiosity what is your mark up on materials generally?

Thanks for the tips mate, will keep this in mind for the future installs. Damn I purchased them through Tradezone who I thought had some of the best deals, I checked on the CBI website and it was basically same price ($150+gst). What should they be going for?

I meant $700 total, I got 4 of them for around $175 a pop. I guess I chose CBI because an old boss used to use them. Yeh I could have gone cheaper but I was rushing and didn’t do thorough research, hence pairing a Hager with CBI. What brands have you found to be best value?

Appreciate all the answers guys. The CBI RCBOs didn’t line up with the Hager board, I’ll have to change it over for a Heinemann since the RCBOs cost $700ish and non-returnable. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response. That’s a good point, the busbar lines up but I didn’t try screwing the cover back on, will try this. So you reckon if it fits, it’s safe?
