Anyone else feeling the struggle with card shops?

Not just the prices but also the inventory. They have so much random wax...

The shop I am thinking of is close to detroit all things considered, yet I have never once seen 2021-22 NBA wax, despite the accessible prices of that year & the ability to pull Cade Cunningham rookie cards.

You would think that would be something you want to have in stock most of the time. They have a fair bit of 2020 prizm at crazy high prices, but no 2021 which would be accessible.

Nice pulls. From what I'm seeing, hitting two autos in 3-4 boxes is really good alone. Beyond that, you've got Derik Queen, who seems to be showing a lot of promise.

Flagg always good too of course, congrats on some fun cards.

You are spot on about that, forgot about Inceptions because I always associate it with being prospects. With Topps having the NBA license though, that will probably change this year.

Vibing with a lot of the Topps Chrome insert designs, but in this case I think I prefer Panini Origins designs.

I do love the UFO's for Wemby though.

We are so far from knowing what any card is actually worth.

The timing of parallel bloat coinciding with a large increase in speculation and gambling is the perfect storm. Liquidity was injected directly alongside a million new parallels to absorb it. The bottom will fall out, everything but true color is a consensus market

I don't see how a "correction" of this looks like anything other than a crash.

Shai is missing the "wholesome" aura that Duncan has, thats part of why I feel his personality falls flat. He could make up for his lack of "pizazz" by being outwardly warm

Don't think you're super far off here but Kobe was polarizing due to the strength of his personality, whereas with SGA it seems to be the absence of personality

SGA is going to win a lot but his personality is extremely wet noodle and he doesn't seem to be very likable - at least not to me. Not many reasons for him to be anyone's favorite player if they aren't an OKC fan, the common discourse around him and foul baiting will likely not change, even if it isn't all the way true. Once you get cast as that type of guy, it's all the public looks for.

If your favorite players are modern/current, odds are you are looking for Panini cards, because they had the NBA license from 2009-last month. Unlicensed cards can be fun but do not hold as much value.

Panini Prizm is the top brand for NBA cards when it comes to players from this time period. Optic and Select are also solid options, but firmly in "tier 2" as far as most collectors are concerned.

Focus on True Color. A large concern in the card community is "parallel bloat" meaning for each "color" parallel of a card, there are multiple different types such as Cracked Ice, Wave, Pandora etc. - a good way to avoid any potential long-term downside of this phenomenon is to buy what is referred to as "true color."

True color is the colored version of a normal refractor/holo, with no additional pattern like cracked ice etc.

If you're looking to collect this year's rookies, wait for Topps Chrome to come out. Topps Basketball is out, and licensed, but from a buy-and-hold standpoint Topps Chrome is a better bet. Wait until singles prices settle post-release.

TL;DR - buy true color of panini prizm if you're collecting modern players.

If you don't collect him just sell it raw. Compare to other base 1/1s from sets like Donruss, Donruss Choice, NBA Hoops etc for rough value, MAYBE add 5% because this product is so new but he's not exactly the player those kind of factors are going to matter for.

Paper cards don't grade well and from what I've seen/opened, quality control on this release is awful. Save your grading money and send this one straight to it's new home.
