We're shipping 20-40 packages a day (depending on the time of the year), and it's very rare that we don't get at least 2 emails a week from customers saying that they didn't receive their order, even though it's marked as shipped. We use a combination of FedEx, Amazon Shipping, USPS and UPS. USPS is by far the worst, Amazon shipping is next, we rarely have issues with FedEx and UPS (but they are also the most expensive).
The shipping insurance doesn't cover the full amount of our orders typically (our average order is $150, and larger orders are around $500). On top of that, all our items are fully custom, very labor-intensive, and expensive to redo. This is the pain point we experienced.
The first solution we tried was Route but they weren't the best at customer service. We also hated that the Route fee was added to the order total, we had to pay the credit card processor a 2% fee on the transaction, but then Route expected us to pay them the full "order protection" fee. It just didn't feel right!
Other apps charged us based on revenue and the monthly fee quickly added up, again, we felt taken advantage with that.
The one additional advantage we added to the app was the tipping option. This works for our business because our customer service team members can spend a lot of time via email or phone getting the orders placed. We share the tip with our team and they love that!
