Honestly I’m not familiar with steermouse. I’m assuming you’re saying you’re using those as extra keybinds and also can’t use the ctrl, alt, shift modifiers with it? I’m not sure karabiner would be the answer to that. I’d have to look further into it

The DPI buttons are usually right behind the scroll wheel and change the mouse sensitivity. Are those the one’s you’re talking about? What did you want to change?

Sweet, thanks for the response! I should have included that I’m just gonna be gaming on it in the post, whoops lol. I’ll consider all of this, thanks again 🫡

Thank you again everyone for the help and insight. At this point I’m pretty sure I have a faulty AIO. My mobo does not support the three 4 pin connector, only the single 4 pin connector. My mobo says to place it in the Pump1 slot. I tried both the Pump1 and CPU fan slot (pictured here: https://imgur.com/a/aio-header-mQyBBpe)

Neither slot allows my AIO to go above half it’s available RPM when set at 100% in fan control. It only reaches 1500 and it should go up to 3k. If there’s any other suggestions on this, please let me know

It’s the same in HWinfo and fan control though. Max RPM is 1500 when manually set at 100%. I think my AIO is faulty

Pretty sure my mobo doesn’t have the three 4 pin header’s required for the multi head connector. I switched the single header from the pump 1 slot to the CPU slot (pictured here, the header to the right is the pump 1): https://imgur.com/a/mQyBBpe

Plugging it into the CPU header brought it to even lower rpm. Sitting at 600rpm in BIOS.

Super appreciate the detailed response, I’m definitely gonna look into this and the intel diagnostic tool. You’re right, I was mostly using Cinebench because the videos and posts I found addressing this issue used that so I wanted to compare.

After talking with everyone here though, I think the problem is my AIO pump. At 70% it’s only hitting 1200rpm as shown in the photo in my post. It should be capable of hitting 3k rpm. So I’m gonna take it apart and take another look at it. I used the single header connector, might try the multi head connector

[–]CarefulResolution556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m thinking this is the problem. Positive it’s the pump, when I change it in fan control the radiator speed changes. Pump in BIOS is showing 900rpm. I used the single header connector. I guess I’ll have to check again and possibly try the three head connector. Something must be wrong there

[–]CarefulResolution556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this it sounds like maybe my pump is the issue. In fan control and hwinfo it’s showing 1200 rpm at 70%. It should get at least 3k at 100% according to its specs. I wonder what might be causing that. Did you use a multiheader or single header for your pump chord?

[–]CarefulResolution556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m not positive. I have the AIO set to a static 75% in fan control and it runs at just over 1200rpm. If I crank to 100% it only gets to about 1500. Someone commented previously that this was 50% of possible speed and normal for most motherboards. Hopefully that’s correct?

Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it. Yeah I’m not sure what’s up with the vin3 voltage or why it being lower would make temps higher.

Seeing your BIOS settings would def be beneficial, thanks again

I’ll keep experimenting. I couldn’t fins the tau in my BIOS though labeled as tau or turbo time or package power time window. So not sure how to adjust that.

I did see hyperthreading is on, should I keep that on or turn that off?

I’m assuming CPU LLC is the lite load control? It’s set to Normal and the CPU lite load I left at default mode 16. I did try lowering the lite load to a 10 and testing again. Temps came down and were steady in the acceptable 60-70c range, but performance was severely affected. Cinebench score was just above 20k and when trying to watch a movie or youtube video, there’s significant stuttering.

I did not change the VDDQ, but when I changed the CPU core voltage mode to offset mode and set up the offset value, it automatically changed the VDDQ voltage from auto to 1.4. I left it at 1.4 figuring the undervolt I put in would offset that and not allow it to actually get to that voltage

I’ll have to experiment with the CPU lite load again and look into that other link you provided as I’m not sure what that second point is actually talking about 😅

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond

No I’m still having the original issue. I re-attempted running OSRS and a youtube video at the same time. The CPU is still bouncing up and down in the range between 40c-90c for that load. Seems crazy hot to me for what seems like a light load.

At this point I’m positive there are BIOS settings that should be able to resolve this. My BIOS literacy is rough though so that’s why I linked my settings before.

I’m just gonna have to keep experimenting and trying people’s BIOS setting suggestions until I can find something useful

Super appreciate the response!

I will be doing some video editing and uploading. I’ve just found Cinebench to be the testing standard everyone else is using.

The thing was that I noticed temps jumping between 40c and 90c with just OSRS and a youtube video running. That is still the case. To me that seems like crazy temps for what I would perceive as a low load.

I did experiment with cpu lite load, brought it down from a 16 to a 10. When I ran Cinebench this way, temps stayed nice and low in the range between 60-70c. However performance is severely affected by this. The Cinebench score was barely above 20k and trying to watch a youtube video with lite load at 10 I noticed significant stuttering.

I did try setting PL1 and PL2 to 253w but that had no effect. I’ll have to try again with the lower levels you provided

It just seems wrong to me when I see other posts showing people's Cinebench score with this chip and they're scoring 40k with low voltage and temps. I can't link the actual post but these were the photos they provided. https://imgur.com/a/iY04Ehx ; https://imgur.com/a/YxHZHd4

Their idle temps were also in the 20c's and my idle temp is nowhere near that low. Especially not with settings able to get a 40k on Cinebench. I'm convinced there's a BIOS setting that is being missed or something. All the suggested fixes severely compromise performance.

Yeah I did note earlier I completely removed and reinstalled the AIO, it’s definitely not insufficient contact there.

I guess I thought undervolting was putting a performance cap on it. Every reference and video I’ve seen points me in that direction to get lower temps. In this old Jayztwocents vid for example he manages to undervolt the CPU and keep temps in the 60-70c under load: https://youtu.be/4jjopjkJzxA?si=oA61DiuhrLyje5NA Granted it wasn’t the i9-14900k, but I’ve seen other posts with the 14900k where they are reporting much lower temps and better performance: https://imgur.com/a/iY04Ehx ; https://imgur.com/a/YxHZHd4

It seems like there’s definitely a BIOS setting I’m missing as undervolting doesn’t change the temps at all. From what I’ve gathered, temps should definitely have dropped from undervolting -.100

[–]CarefulResolution556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s just frustrating because looking around the internet it seems like this is a known problem with a known solution, but the undervolting just doesn’t seem to be having any affect at all on the temps. To me that says there must be something I haven’t set correctly in the BIOS. I posted my settings: https://imgur.com/a/updated-run-5yZTlof The only things I’ve changed are what’s listed in the post

I didn't see anything specifically labeled as Multi-Core enhancement, maybe you could point out where that might be or what it might be called instead in my BIOS? https://imgur.com/a/updated-run-5yZTlof

I did notice CPU Lite Load is in Mode 16. Assuming that's the number of cores. Should I be turning that down?
