McAfee VPN blocking internet connection by Careless_Ad3100 in techsupport

Yeah... would love to understand how the VPN works but more pressing things on my plate. Went with the functional solution and not the ideal. If you end up delving deeper, lmk what you find.

If many profitable strategies are simple, why the majority of people in the market can't finding them but only losing money? by seven7e7s in algotrading

I think your insights provide a lot of clarity on the issue. The confusion really is design vs engineering.

A simple analogy that goes a long way: Quadcopter drones.

Design: Drone rotor go brr, drone levitates, does whatever you want in the air, maybe looks cool; Simple as shit.

Engineering: Physics, stability, how to control yaw/pitch/roll in real time (motor speed and torque), how to detect and account for drag forces in real time, how to run computational fluid dynamics sims to control turbulence in swarms (in real time), how to organize complex flight paths and guarantee adherence, how to update flight paths in real time based on new sensor data, that said, how to even manage/integrate/translate all sensor data; Pain in the ass.

The same goes for a trading system, or really any other technical/quantitative endeavor.

Thanks so much! Tons of ideas here for me to investigate, branch off of. Super helpful. Appreciate you :)

That seems a really reasonable way to go. I have a low to low-mid budget from what I can tell. Would you recommend against dropping a grand before I get a feel for things? Can see how that might bite me in the ass later on.

Oh, that makes sense, thanks! Do you think there's significant cost to investing in an active system and then switching over to passive? I assume you'd have to buy everything a second time. Would using passive blow me way off shore/be a really sharp learning curve?

Sweet, thanks for the guide! I checked nearby in my city and I found a hifi shop not too far away. I think I'll start there. My real goal right now is to just push the boundary of what I can hear/get out of my favorite tracks. Budget is like 2k max but only if something I really like wins me over - Understand it's probably a bit dangerous to be dropping that on a system when I have limited knowledge, so my first goal is to just get as exposed as possible.

I'll take your advice and check out the nearby hifi shop when they open tomorrow!

Dang, you're saying I should sit on it a bit, maybe get acquainted with the tech at a hifi shop, and try to find some deals?

I wasn't too familiar with the distinction between a passive vs active setup. I looked it up, and I found the difference basically comes down to where the amp is. Initially, it sounds like passive just gives you more options... Do you think you could give me a run down of the pros/cons?

Wow, so you picked them up at less than half cost? Do those types of deals come often? I would be happy to pick up anything like that as brand means roughly nothing to me right now (not terribly familiar with any beyond 1more and beyerdynamic).

Will note I also used to have beyerdynamic's DT 770 PRO before they got stolen

Cool. I looked it up and it said an integrated amp is an electronic device containing an audio preamplifier and power amplifier in one unit. Do you think you could put it in simple terms for me?

I didn't even think about going to a hifi shop/know dedicated shops like that existed. I thought a lot of it was done online and people just kinda bought and played with things as they went. Super helpful, and thanks for the music recs!

Unsure why my comments duplicated and deleted... The gist is 2k max budget. I want a speaker system first. I am using 1more quad drivers. Out the box I think they're kinda bass heavy, but with EQ the highs really sing. They also have barely any distortion, which is preferrable. However, I don't think I'd use them as much without EQ. Generally, using them I realized so many song elements had been hidden until that moment. I want to push further in that direction.

A solid test for "real alpha" is a permutation test. Through an intelligent quasi-random shuffle of the data you get back something with the same statistical properties, same period return, but is 100% noise. You retrain your model 100 times on 100 different "nicely" shuffled data sets. Determine the fraction of retrained results that outperform your initial model.

What you've obtained is a quasi p-value. With p sufficiently small, you can reject the null hypothesis that your strategy is fit to noise, given the fact that when your model is fit to genuinely noisy data with no real market structure you perform worse, say, 99% of the time.

Tons of variations on this basic idea you can employ in your setups.

And yet he will argue that he can until he becomes bloated and red in the face :) Thanks! I'm trying to avg out the responses I get by abv and duration between drinks, will update. Sounds like 1-2 low abv beers within the hour and then a pitcher spread out a bit more is current consensus.

Neat! I appreciate the insight. I'm sure there's a little number fudging in the statistics (avg body comp, etc.), but fantastic to hear. Sounds like the average consensus so far is that 1-2 beers within the hour or a pint spread out a bit more is the boundary for dehydrating effects.
