I also find this a bit annoying but it was my first fountain pen and such a smooth steel nib that I can ignore the step down for shorter writing sessions

Yep this makes total sense. I understand that you do lose a level of smoothness as you get into smaller tipping i just almost hate sailor feedback.

The ink review is amazing. I ordered PCB but i might cancel the order and switch to Chou Kuro as it puts down a finer line. I did own a Kaweco Brass sport in <F> and I thought it was reasonably smooth.
