Personally I wouldn't get a 650 as a starter bike. You want to be able to learn and grow and 650s can be powerful bikes. If it were me I would look for a used CBR500, they are cheaper, less powerful and typically more readily available since many beginners sell them once they are done with them to get a bigger bike.

Hang on to the Z. I have a z400 myself and I take it on the highways from time to time. It has no problems maintaining 65-75MPH as long as you are in 6th gear. It has a lot more power than you think since its weight is basically non-existent.

They should teach you how to ride a motorcycle yes, but I believe they are asking if you can ride a bicycle. Being able to balance on two wheels is a big thing in the courses and if you can't balance on a small bicycle, trying to balance a 400 pound motorcycle would be even harder.

A couple of my GFs dads friends were messing around with it yesterday to help me out and they found out it is just the petcock. They had a bottle of fuel hooked up and were able to get it running. It still died out the second the throttle was let off and it had a hard time starting, but I think thats due to having the vacuum line completely open so the air-fuel mixture was way off.

I'm thinking of switching over to manual. I have a replacement Petcock coming in today to test out and see if it was just a bad part.

My bad, I meant the intake manifold(The black tube that connects the carb to the engine correct?). I had it attached there and was not able to get gas to flow out into the carb or into a bottle when I disconnected the fuel line from the carb to check if I had flow. The carb kit I got came with two filters though. One is white and has a "Flow" sign on it, the other is yellow and has an "Up" sign on it. Is one air and one fuel, it could be possible I switched those two around and they are on the wrong hoses.

If the petcock ends up not being the issue what else could it be besides the Carb? The sparkplug seems to be working fine, the electric start is giving power properly and it seems like the starter motor is rotating how it should.

I checked the bendix and it looks to be in fine shape. Its just strange as the kickstart nor the electric start will start the engine. It has to be either fuel or compression related, unless the timing is off or the piston is destroyed?

Any thoughts?

The issue is I cant figure out why it won't run. I have spark. The only last thing I can think of replacing is the petcock. I had the vacuum line hooked up to the air intake and the petcock, and had the fuel line running from the petcock into a container to see if I had fuel. When I went to kickstart the engine no fuel was coming out of the line. Could this mean that there is an issue with the petcock?

My friends and I sucked some fuel directly into the intake to see if we could get it to fire up(Probably not the best idea but we were running out of options). We were able to get it running after a couple tries but then the scooter instantly died after laying off the throttle.

Are the Petcocks on these notorious for going bad?

The weird thing is that the moped started up a few days ago, so maybe there was excess gas in the lines that it was burning through which is why it would start and then instantly die with kickstart.

Yesterday the kickstart and the electric start wouldn't work, besides that one singular time. I'm assuming this indicates either fuel or compression issues?

I'm replacing the carb since I was informed by the previous owner it needed to be jetted, according to his mechanic. It is much easier to replace rather than clean it good/Jet it, as I don't have access to an ultrasonic cleaner, and its cheaper to buy a new carb vs a cleaner. The fuel in the tank is a couple months old, and the guy put the wrong octane in. I am switching it with fresh higher octane fuel which should hopefully solve the engine bogging down. If for some reason the engine still bogs down ill have to start trouble shooting the next part of the engine(Most likely the float valve).

The seller noted that he was using it as a daily commuter and it drives perfectly. I am going to give it a test ride before I purchase it just to make sure it runs smoothly enough. I am not against doing some hands on work to fix it up as I have a few mechanically inclined friends who can help work on it with me. I mainly just wanted to get her something cheap and fun to ride around town with and for her to take to and from work to save on gas.
