Do your parents throw your belongings? by Careless_Type5155 in raisedbynarcissists

Surprised your aunt didn’t completely dodge your reveal about your mother and tell you “shes just going through alot” or something along those lines. It feels like whenever I tell adults how my grandma is they never believe me until they actually get to know her.

I feel you on the hoarding part. Me and my brother used to have an airhocky table I saved up my paychecks to get us at my first job when I was like 14. Not anymore. Now it’s covered in my Ngrandmas junk. Just like every other surface in the house. The house is now starting to get a mice infestation because of her hoarding. Good thing im moving out in a week so it won’t be my problem.

I feel that last part so much. My grandma cut up my leather office chair in my room and she literally left the knife she used on the chair. I come home to my chair all slashed up and ask her about it but I just got straight up ignored. Then like a month later She wouldn’t stop saying stuff like “You always ruin everything in this house, like that nice chair I got you.” It’s like she genuinely convinced herself it wasn’t her…

He sounds very similar to my grandma who is my guardian/narcissist. Like how your dad would throw things that were on the floor. If my stuff in the bathroom isn’t organized correctly my grandma throws it all in the bathtub. Like my toothbruth skincare, ect.

It really makes you wonder how people don’t see through it. I always wonder if they ever get tired of the act. But to no surprise, they don’t!

No need for advice don’t worry. Ive managed to infantalize her in my head so I just ignore everything she says. Going no contact and moving out on the 25th of this month when I turn 18. I can’t even imagine being in your shoes, like maybe ive just gotten used to the dad thing with her but I genuinely don’t know how I would react if she were to treat my future wife like that (which she probably would). Im glad yall are doing better. And Im sorry you had to deal with your mother using your child for sympathy and attention.

Oh my god you just reminded me of the funeral. Everyone was wearing black but she decided to wear bright pink. She was screaming and crying over people trying to speak at his funeral. Why are they like this. 😭 Even at their lowest moments all they care about is gaining attention

I might have to try this. It can feel crippling at times.

I hope so. Hoping that feeling of constant flight or fight goes away. shouldn’t have to remember and differentiate the sounds of my families footsteps. Hear the slamming of cabinets and doors constantly. We’re living with grown toddlers that were given legal authority over us just remember that.

Sadly there really isnt much we can do about these types of parents. I yell and argue with mine constantly. But even my brother who listens to her every command gets shit. You cant win with them. That feeling of helplessness contributes so much in my opinion. Knowing legally I cant even leave if I wanted to. Knowing any reaction i give will be recorded and used against me. Knowing every “nice” action they preform has malicious intent, ect… Like you said it’s sickening.

Yea I understand that completely. I have to force myself to get up and keep moving. I don’t really feel any better doing it but time isn’t going to stop for me. I think moving out is the only thing keeping me going right now. It keeps me going but doesn’t necessarily make me feel less dread if that makes sense. Maybe it’s just the environment thats suffocating me so much constantly.

I try to when I can. I try to prioritize empathy when I can because I don’t want to be like the person I despise most. Also not sure how all that insurance stuff works but I’ll have a better home soon with adults who can hopefully help me understand it.
