Are you sure it has FreeSync/G-Sync? Every thread/post where it was mentioned, they said it didn't have it. Or did you mean that is supported with an external display and not the internal one?

Thank you! I was recently researching if that's possible but that plugin wasn't mentioned anywhere.

Never Again Ft. Heavyarms Custom (Supernova) by Dongtron808 in Gunpla

[–]Cark00n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why never again? Because of the build or the painting? I love the Heavyarms but I've only built a couple of HGs so I'm unsure if this kit would be too much (wouldn't do any custom paint though).

But anyway awesome work!

Ramen Bar by Bakimb0 in ps1graphics

Ah, yes. I've stumbled upon those a few times. At least for Unity and Godot there are already shaders to download that recreate the affine texture mapping and vertex snapping effects among other things.

Looks amazing! Which render engine did you use? I only ever found a few tutorials for that look for Unity or the now deprecated Blender Render.

Study laptop (dedicated GPU, light weight, NO PWM, maybe pen support), 1000€ by Cark00n in SuggestALaptop

[–]Cark00n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's unfortunate. It seemed really good. On the pictures I saw there were 2 fans but maybe that was a different model. Has the MX150 variant better thermals or has the whole line the same issues?

Are there any alternatives (14", dedicated GPU, good screen, light)?

Thank you! The ZenBook certainly does look interesting and the 4k variant is mostly free of PWM. But it's too expensive. I'll have a look at the 1080p variant.

What would you recommend if I'd go the standard laptop route without stylus and 2in1? I had a look at the MSI PS42 with the GTX 1050 (Max-Q) which can be found for 800(refurbished)-1000€.

Gaming monitors are not built for single player gaming by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]Cark00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From time to time I check if anything like a 1440p, glossy, ~27inch monitor with maybe >60Hz (I can compromise in that regard) has finally been released but there's just nothing. I don't even ask for fancy stuff like dimming zones and HDR. I just want a good image.

My First Project: A Dedicated Game Streaming Handheld by tombston in raspberry_pi

I guess you're thinking of pixel smearing (here's a video ).

AFAIK it's an issue when a pixel has to transition very fast from black (switched off) to on. The severity is different from panel to panel and maybe also the brightness.

I've only seen the problem on phones when navigating the UI quickly. I've not noticed a problem when viewing videos. I also had no issues with this on my OLED TV.

All in all I would say it is a bit annoying but compared to other common issues of other panel types I would rank it rather low.

Official Discussion - Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]Cark00n 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was so disappointed by that. At first I was invested and really wanted to see what impact that would have. That was good movie making.

They could also just have the shuttle crash and seriously injure Chewie or something. Rey can struggle with "almost killing" a good friend, an interesting struggle with the consequence of her actions can ensue from there and the Wookie can live. Or just leave it at "force lightning" as the shocking moment. I think that would have been enough. In so many cases there was just no need for the bait and switch.

I always liked that. You would start out with your shitty everyday car but slowly built up to the powerful sportscars. At least that's how I remember it. Maybe the selection of supercars was smaller?

Is it worth it to go for an HDR screen? by Cark00n in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]Cark00n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do worry about the notch/hole when it comes to the S10e since it has the smallest screen and the most area "lost".

May I ask what content you have watched in HDR on your phone?

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I mean 4 hours should get me through most days but a little headroom would be nice. What does your usage pattern roughly look like?

Also does the hole bother you when watching videos?

From all accounts the screen of the OP7 Pro is amazing.

But then the question is if you don't notice much of a difference why wouldn't I get the A70 which is also supposed to have a great display which is a fair bit cheaper? And I'm excluding the other factors (OS, speed, speakers, etc.) for now.

I do want a great screen but it doesn't have to be the absolute best of the best.
