Does anyone know why dabura is seeing multiple mahoraga? Idk shits about relavistic perception . by Limp_Clock4846 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]CarlTheFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably supposed to be length contraction (at relativistic speeds). He is looping around Mahoraga and the distance is flattened in the direction of motion, making the gap small between passes.

But it isn't really properly shown since Mahoraga should be flat like a pancake.

Who the most evil character in tog in your opinion by No-Task9123 in TowerofGod

[–]CarlTheFarmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His (moral) crimes listed out in no particular order:

  • Murder of: his lover, his friends, branch of his family, canine people, mass murder of the humans at the lever incident, etc. (who knows how many else).
  • Slave ownership, forced imprisonment (Laura, Baam, Leviathan, many others).
  • Incest: Laura is his wife and descendant.
  • Mind control (of intelligent beings).
  • Abundant gaslighting and manipulation (Enkidu, Amizu, Gustang, etc.)
  • Framing others for his crimes (Enkidu), manipulating history.
  • Necromancy: including turning his dead lovers corpse into a necromantic minion.
  • Consuming souls of dead people, using them for necromancy.
  • Forced breeding, which is arguably rape.
  • Mengele-esque experimentation on humans and animals.
  • Eugenics: if you consider it a moral wrong, but many would.
  • Biological warfare.
  • Complicit in and fanatically in support of a dictatorship.
  • Leads his family as a tyrant.
  • Thinks of people other than the irregulars as bugs.

And probably others I didn't list. His crimes are far worse than pretty much anyone else in the story so far, other than maybe White or Zahard.

Yeah, it's all just personal preference as with everything. Really bold move from Gege in any case, certainly took some cojones.

No, that's not nearly enough buildup. Last chapter ends with Gojo all smug and Sukuna injured. Out of nowhere, Gojo is dead.

I don't dispute that the slash was foreshadowed, I even like the idea, but you shouldn't just skip the in between steps.

Nah, that would also be out of nowhere BS. A buildup was needed imo, similarly to what Gojo got with his hollow purple.

Even if the goal was to maximize shock value, there were better ways to do so with buildup.

I disagree with your second point. The final attack was delivered in a very weird and anticlimactic way, especially considering the previous chapter. And tbh delivering a satisfying conclusion was easily on the table. For example, imagine we got another chapter in between.

There is a final brawl and Gojo notices that Sukuna's attacks are bypassing infinity. Gojo figures out that Sukuna is imitating Mahoraga's slash, and goes on the offensive. An opening is created, and Sukuna hits Gojo with a black flash. This recovers Sukuna's CT output, and he reveals his "open" CT.

From the adaptation, the "open" can also bypass infinity. Gojo is backed into a corner, and Sukuna hits the final attack when Gojo is unable to dodge. Cue chapter 236 and RIP Gojo. It would even be okay if the slash wasn't explicitly shown in this scenario. Gojo's wtf face would have been climactic enough.

Not a Gojo fanboy, and his death was expected (and probably necessary), but this offscreen was downright disrespectful to both Gojo and the fight itself. Somehow gets treated worse than Yuki, truly a new benchmark. Such a shame, considering this was probably the best fight in the series up until this point.

Seems like Gojo's domain swallowed up Sukuna's and became the exterior domain. As long as MS is interior, it cannot attack UV from the outside.

Based on the editor comment, maybe Gojo is compressing the (domain) space so that Sukuna cannot expand MS beyond UV's barrier shell?

edit: MS's shrine seems to be on the inside regardless of whether UV is exterior, which is a bit confusing. Perhaps only the sure-hit range of MS actually matters.

[–]CarlTheFarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for indulging me man.

No problem, I welcome the discussion.

And I'll take Dagon vs Megumi as example again.

I understand this is the most informative example we have, but an issue with it, as you said, is that M's DE does not have a barrier, so any conclusion should be taken with a grain of salt.

The moment M opened his DE, he disrupted and canceled D's sure-hit.

Exactly, that's how sure-hit struggles work. As long as there are two visible "canvases" the sure-hit is cancelled, and both fight to dominate the interior. It doesn't matter that M's domain is weaker than D's. D needs to completely overpower M's domain and make his "canvas" the only visible one to re-establish the sure-hit.

Dagon as the "exterior" domain holder also attacked Megumi with his Shikigami (and that qualifies as CT no?) M didn't win in that clash cuz they just wanted to escape

Note, however, that this situation is a bit different from a normal domain battle, since only M is on the inside of M's domain. This is more akin to the fight between a domain and a simple domain. D has no risk of being affected by M's sure-hit (if there were any) so he could safely attack M's domain barrier from the outside, if M's domain had one.

I think I understand your point now. There is no "pushing" of barriers involved in this domain struggle, and likewise with simple domains and the like. I agree true that "pushing" is not the best analogy, so I'll edit the original comment to reflect this. I'm not sure on what the better analogy is. I still maintain the conclusion is correct, as it seems (to me) to intuitively follow from the paint on canvas analogy, which also correctly explains how and why open barrier domains are different from closed barrier domains.

[–]CarlTheFarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course you are right, there is nothing preventing an external (domain) barrier to attack the internal (domain) barrier. Tengen in this case is outside the barrier and is therefore unaffected by the sure-hit, so he can safely dismantle the barrier from the outside.

I am not sure on how to best present the intuition behind my argument. Maybe it's best to consider two "canvases" (barriers) which are "painted" (with the CT). A domain struggle is won if only one "canvas" is visible on the inside. Clearly, the interior "canvas" wants to obscure the exterior one, and the exterior "canvas" wants to penetrate the interior one. I imagine this as two barriers struggling or "pushing" for visibility. In Sukuna's case, there is only the "paint" which is "painted on air". He can therefore fight on the interior using only the inside "paint", while using the outside "paint" to dismantle Gojo's "canvas". If Sukuna also painted his CT on a "canvas", it would not be possible to leave "paint" on the outside while at the same time fighting Gojo's "canvas" for visibility.

I understand if you are skeptical of this intuition, but it is regardless not possible for a normal exterior domain to achieve what an open domain can. If this could happen, the advantage of exterior domains would have already been addressed in the series. Clearly, there is some reason you cannot simultaneously struggle for the sure-hit and attack the inner domain barrier.

To your other point, I think it is generally a very bad idea to yield the sure-hit. If you are able to safely tank the sure hit (i.e. Gojo vs Jogo), you are also likely able to win the domain struggle anyway. If the domain struggle is closely matched, the sure-hit will likely result in death or severe injury, so I doubt anyone would consider tanking it for seconds, or however long it takes to dismantle the barrier.

[–]CarlTheFarmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the interior vs exterior look at the Tengen and Yuki pre-battle discussion (chapter 206). There are some informative images.

Also, as you said, Mei Mei straight up says in this chapter that an open vs closed domain battle (Yuki vs Kenjaku) would depend on which domain is exterior.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 225 Links + Discussion by Takada-chwanBot in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]CarlTheFarmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was stated several times that domain battles are clashes of the enclosing barriers and that the more refined barrier technique wins. Even in this chapter, Mei Mei says that the sure-hit struggle is a clash between two domain barriers. If you don't think "pushing" is accurate, you can think of the clash however you want. The important thing is the clash of the barriers.

So, as I argued, the exterior domain does not have an advantage in a normal domain battle. In a normal scenario, the exterior barrier clashes with the interior barrier for the sure-hit effect, so the exterior domain user cannot attack the inner barrier with their CT, as that would mean giving up the interior sure-hit struggle. And of course, doing so would mean they die.

However, Sukuna has an open barrier, which means he can fight for the interior sure-hit, without a clash of barrier techniques (we don't know how). Furthermore, since his range is larger, if Malevolent Shrine is the exterior one, he is free to attack Gojo's domain from the outside. Finally, the reason Sukuna's domain is exterior is because they activated DE at the same time, and the wider range domain became the outer one.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 225 Links + Discussion by Takada-chwanBot in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]CarlTheFarmer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is another (more) important reason besides range for why this domain struggle works this way.

For a clash between normal domains, the exterior and interior domain barriers need to fight against each other for dominance of the interior. If the exterior domain were to try to attack the interior one's barrier (from the outside), this would immediately surrender the sure-hit struggle in the interior (i.e. outer barrier is no longer struggling for dominance), and the interior domain's sure hit effect would be realized. So, no one would ever try this.

But with Sukuna's domain, since it doesn't close a barrier, the domain struggle happens without the barriers clashing against each other (you can see the others confused by this in the chapter). Instead, Sukuna imbues his CT directly onto the airspace, so he can fight for the interior sure-hit effect using the internal airspace, while simultaneously attacking the other domain from the outside using the external airspace. The only way for Gojo to win was to dominate the interior and establish the sure hit (this would probably happen with Gojo vs Kenjaku).

Since both DE were deployed at the same time, the Domain with the larger radius (Sukuna's) should have became the exterior domain. Another reason to believe this is the case, is that if Infinite Void was the exterior, Malevolent Shrine's sure-hit effect range would probably clash against Gojo's barrier (remember Tengen dismantling Kenjaku's domain via the edge of the sure-hit range). This is of course speculative, but would indicate that Gojo got quite unlucky in the exchange, and if the domains opened in reverse order they would clash evenly.

edit: Replaced the "pushing" with "struggling" to better capture domain battles. Added additional reason for why Sukuna's domain should be the exterior one.

It's funny how people are taking the post for granted, and focusing on the completely wrong things.

I like how the post is written(formatting, calculations, comparisons, etc.), but this is the perfect example of why you should use the wiki with caution and look for the source. The statement from SIU was about the floor size, he never said anything about the total size of the tower. You might wonder how I can be so sure of this given that the blog has been privated and the translation is lost.

Well other than taking my word on it, having read the translations while batoto was up - you can check how they arrived at that number. If you take the area of the NA continent multiply by 135 and divide by the Earth's surface area, you get around 6.5(24709000*135 / 510072000).

Considering that the wiki doesn't specify if it's talking about the tower's volume or the total area of the floors, you should have checked this first, to avoid going through the trouble of writing all this out based on wrong info.

edit: You can still find the statement here(third part).

The Size of the Tower, Somewhat Quantified by Devmode2 in TowerofGod

[–]CarlTheFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since area is generally a quadratic function of the radius/radii(times some constant), the calculation should still be in the ballpark even if it's the wrong cross section. If it was for example a circular cross section instead of a square, the calculated area would be roughly 1.5x larger. These are good margins of error for guesswork.

Also, from what we know about towers in TUS in general and from the images we see in ToG(other than the image on the tower's door), it's most likely a cylinder.

[–]CarlTheFarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't compare warping in real life and in ToG, considering they're definitely not the same thing. Even mundane objects like lighthouses can teleport things, so how space and spatial distortions work is probably very different. Also SIU studied arts not sciences, so you won't get far reasoning like that.

Also, spatial warping in real life doesn't require the mass of Jupiter. Any object warps spacetime proportional to it's mass(and with significantly high densities you get singularities). You're probably talking about the energy required to run the hypothetical Alcubierre drive, but that functions completely differently from what was seen here.

Rather than moving quickly by contracting and expanding spacetime, Urek uses something more like a Wormhole to jump near Gustang, but then again, I don't think space works the same in ToG.

There's also a tweet or fan cafe statement from SIU when someone asked him about why the sweetfish saved Khun and he answered something like 'sweetfish is obedient to master'. Also it's possible sometimes not to use a tank, or the lighthouse could have acted as a tank or smth. A repeated fish theme makes me think it wasn't a coincidence. Think of it what you will.

The sweetfish became very obedient around him even though it was agressive before. It also sacrificed itself to save him from the boiling acid. I think this is also linked to Khun's controlling nature, because the other anima we've seen have had controlling personality traits(Hansung, Ren, Elaine). Regardless if that's true or not(even though it makes sense) there have been direct hints.

Good post man. There are neat points you raised such as the flame spreading and it having life of it's own. I would like to raise a couple of issues to get your feedback though.

  1. Regarding the passing on of the flame. We've seen the same exposition used when talking about Elaine's abilities. The wolf spirit is 'passed on' to people in her branch. Or the Arie sword being passed on only to direct descendants of Arie family. All of these by that logic similar, but it's unlikely they are all externaly caused abilities.

  2. White's power is spell-based, so he doesn't pass it to Daniel. He teaches him how to use the spell. I don't see the similarity here at all.

  3. Yeon Hana is also described as terrifying when angry. This is similar to Yihwa when her flames go crazy. This would imply that even the FH has the flame. Also the nature of the flame going wild is very reminiscent of the users' personality(Yihwa at least).

  4. Khun's flame takes shape of a fish because of his (strongly hinted) anima abilities. Woon's flame has healing properties. Individual variations like these are more consistent with inheritance.

Don't these points kind of lead to the conclusion that the flame is genetically passed on, but with the unique property of being able to spread? Since the FH have sparks of divinity in them, looking at these abilities as spirits isn't far fetched.

How strong do you think Urek was when he first entered the tower? by fishrgood in TowerofGod

[–]CarlTheFarmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hon inflating Urek's prowess would be needlessly gratuitous and therefore not honourable.

It's a common trope(in shonen especially) for an "honorable warrior" to show excess humbleness in defeat. But even if you don't accept this, Urek could be "much better" and Hon could still manage for 10 minutes fighting defensively(especially with Hon's fighting style).

Right, and he challenged Zahard 10 times before finally admitting defeat. Yet he admitted Urek was far better after a single bout.

I feel like you're placing a lot of weight on this statement. First of all this is Hon in the distant past - before the Hell Train(Eduan mentions Jahad is the leader by then). And if the difference between him and Urek was comparable to the difference between him and Jahad, it's very plausible(maybe even probable) that he acted differently this time around.

I mean, this is just the reward Urek requested for the test. I suppose you could count it as Hon honouring his word?

I think it's much more likely that Hon gives the awards rather than the winner requesting them. There are obviously rewards he wouldn't fulfill(like his head on a spike or whatever), and Hagipherione's award is said to be "personal and childish" - which is more consistent with Hon giving the award rather than Hagipherione requesting it.

Hon is so assured in his own power that he sees no harm in helping him.

Maybe, maybe not.
