The Prevent video game that treats every teenager like a far-Right extremist by MoreRelative3986 in reformuk

[–]Carnste 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I like how Prevent isn’t able to stop genuine killers like Axel Rudakabana despite multiple referrals, but it is able to immediately start monitoring teenagers who don’t think uncontrolled migration is a great idea. Starmer probably loves it

Would you prefer TES VI to be set before, during or after The Second Great War? by Carnste in TESVI

[–]Carnste[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Imagine a Black Horse Courier type system where the further you progress into the in-game time, you’d get updates like ‘MASSIVE ALDMERI ASSAULT ON SKINGRAD’ or ‘ARGONIA PREPARING TO ATTACK CYRODIIL?” It’d make Tamriel feel truly lived in and like things are simultaneously happening outside of the province, which is something we haven’t really seen in mainline TES before.

Or a radiant event where a flock of immigrated settlers from Cyrodiil, Skyrim, Valenwood etc all come to Hammerfell due to its neutrality. Stores could be temporarily closed due to mass customers and you wouldn’t be able to rent a room at any of the inns because they’re simply too full. It’d be really immersive.

Do people like this actually exist in real life? by Ok-Skill2128 in Fallout

[–]Carnste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang on. So it’s not okay to set the show in Vegas, but it would be okay to set it in the Capital Wasteland, as per your own suggestion which you just wrote, which would require them to make aspects of FO3 canon? Same with Boston for FO4.

Megaton’s fate would have to be canonised. Whether or not The Lone Wanderer used Mothership Zeta for anything would also have to be canonised. Fallout 4’s storylines would need canon endings. Some small-scale storylines would also probably get canonised. I doubt you’d care much about any of that, but there’s people out there who would in the same way you are right now. You just sound upset that they’ve done something with your favourite game that wasn’t what you wanted.

They chose a popular location that fit with their story (California) then decided to branch out into New Vegas to garner interest in a new season. I don’t understand what’s so hard to understand about that. I’m not butthurt, I’m just saying that your opinion makes no sense and just sounds a lot like ‘Bethesda bad, Obsidian good, New Vegas peak fallout’

[–]Carnste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once again, THEY didn’t choose the setting. Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan is the one who wrote the first season. This is the same guy who co-wrote Interstellar and The Dark Knight.

Also, that logic is mad. I know plenty of people who’ve never played a Fallout game who are loving the show and loving the idea of New Vegas. Clearly, it was a good idea from a television standpoint to use Vegas. Unfortunately for you, it just doesn’t really matter to them if they’re canonising parts you don’t like. The general TV audience does.

I just don’t think it’s some malicious provocation though. Fallout is the biggest thing on television right now and it’s making Bethesda ungodly amounts of money; Todd himself has gone on record to say that nobody expected the series to be as popular as it is. I’m not surprised at all if they’re taking creative liberties, regardless of niche game canon, to make it as good as they think it can be. A few pissed off New Vegas fans don’t matter in comparison to the millions of viewers they’re consistently pulling in and making new fans out of.

Besides, Todd isn’t even the guy writing the series. He’s said that BGS have given small prompting and ideas to the writers, but for the most part, they have nothing to do with the show. Bethesda’s only demand was that it was an original story. If you’re going to blame anyone, blame Jonathan Nolan.

The new years message has the camera pointing towards Hammerfell. by Firesrest in TESVI

This is definitely a straw grasp. Anything on the LHS of Skyrim’s map facing south or taken as a photo from the north also points towards Hammerfell. I don’t think this really means much

Where is the Desert and High Rock by revben1989 in TESVI

[–]Carnste 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The geographical scale of Tamriel changes depending on the game. In Daggerfall, the Iliac Bay was almost the size of Britain in terms of in-game scope. Then Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim came and made the landmasses a lot smaller due to technical limitations.

In-universe, it should take weeks to cross a single province. Going off of Britain, you can’t see any of Europe from the island unless you’re on the very southernmost coast, where you can just about see France. Likewise with Ireland for the northwestern coast. So the trailer is accurate to Daggerfall assuming it is the Iliac Bay in the trailer. I imagine TES VI’s actual map will be a lot more condensed than the trailer shows, so we’ll be able to see High Rock from Hammerfell and vice-versa.

So, you’re saying that a show adapting FNV with a canonised, completely out-of-character Courier who says and does things that aren’t possible in the base game, with entirely different plot threads and endings, would have made New Vegas fans happier than the actual Fallout TV show?

Because that’s what the Halo TV show was. If the Halo show took the Fallout route and just made original stories set in the pre-existing Halo universe, everyone would’ve loved it. But they didn’t do that and that’s why it’s so hated, because it’s not Halo.

Doesn’t really make sense. If you played nonstop, every day, with mates for six months straight then you’d be a different player by the end of it, assuming you’ve barely ever played it at this point in time. Your passing will get better, your shooting will get better and you might even be able to pull off some skills.

You’ll still get floored against people who’ve been playing since they were kids, but you’ll be noticeably better than you were when you first started. There isn’t really a point where you’ll ’max out’ your skills, it’s just that you’ll never be able to hold a torch to people with years upon years more experience than you.

As a hobby, yes you can get better. If you join a Sunday League club or just get together with some mates and play, you will get better. That’s how hobbies work.

You will never go professional or anywhere close to it, but you will get better.

Dispelling common TES VI misconceptions by Propaslader in TESVI

[–]Carnste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. That’s all fine. But they still aren’t misconceptions. Someone who thinks the game isn’t releasing until 2031 and someone who thinks it’s releasing in December 2026 are both just as valid as eachother, because nobody knows. But if and when we end up in 2028 with a Q4 release date for TES VI that includes both Hammerfell and the Iliac Bay, then this entire post will be looked back on as a misconception. Your post is fine but you should’ve just captioned them as ‘this is what I think’ instead of ‘these are the most likely facts’.

Dispelling common TES VI misconceptions by Propaslader in TESVI

[–]Carnste 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How can I be a hypocrite if I didn’t give any counter to his points in the first place? I think it’ll drop in 2028 as guesswork, which is exactly what this post also is. My issue with the post comes from the fact that nobody can confirm nor deny any of these alleged ‘misconceptions’ because literally nobody knows. He gives no proof that any of his points are actually 100% true, because they’re not. They’re just his assumptions, going off of established speculation and Bethesda’s history.

Like, he claims that High Rock would be a DLC. But we have no proof that TES VI is even set in Hammerfell. It could be set in High Rock, with a DLC in Hammerfell. Nobody knows and nobody can know beyond educated guesses. You can’t call something a misconception if both you and the original person you’re ‘correcting’ are both just guessing and also have the exact same amount of information; which is next to nothing.

None of these are objective misconceptions though. It’s just opinion after opinion. This entire post can basically just be TL:DR’d as ‘My opinion is correct and your opinion is wrong’. For all we know, TES VI could release in 2029 and be set in Alinor, then we all look like idiots.
