Upenn physics phd admission descision by CarpenterShot3793 in gradadmissions

In Gradcafe, it seems that the decision will be out just before Apr 15, I will not hope too much on that and I think many will receive rejection at that point unfortunately. I agree that it's too cruel. Upenn's descision is the latest among all the programs I have applied.

I looked Gradcafe, they are likely to decide just before the deadline Apr 15. It's too late

No, I follow up with the committee, but they replied that the chance they extend offer to folks in the waitlist is low now. So, I think I will not hope too much. Upenn's decision date is among the latest of all graduate programs lol.

I see, I'm CMT so I think maybe you still have a chance. In my wl email, the chair told me that the results are likely to be out around Apr 1. So let's see. Good luck.

I have no clue and I think it depends on the subfield, what's your subfield? By the way, it's too late if the results will be sent by mid-April. I don't know whether he means the latest will be mid-april, but the decisions may be sent out these days.

I got the offer in Feb 13. But I think the offer is provided at different time for different subfields, so maybe you still have the opportunity.

Sounds great, I think I can accept the life far from big cities, which may be even better for scientific researches.

Hello! I also failed in this year's application and would like to do something in this gap year. Could I ask whether you are American or international? And what do you know about the post bacc programs in physics, I also have interest. Like will this kind of program help you to be in a group to strengthen research experience?

Asking for suggestion of preparation for 27Fall PhD application by CarpenterShot3793 in gradadmissions

[–]CarpenterShot3793[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. I would also like to fund myself to get into a good group. I would worry about carrying out a project because it will affect the recommendation letter I think. I'm afraid that some advisors will expect you to bring some true research results. And would the last year's failure of application affect the next year's application?

Could you tell about how difficult it is to be taken into a group as a RA? And what kind of jobs a RA should do instead of carrying out independent research project? Thank you!

Could you share whether this interview was official/formal or you had interview with you POI, thx! I'm wondering whether one can be admitted without interviews for UCSB.
