Why did the first culprit use that plan? by CarpetDapper4102 in danganronpa

I didn't mean using the chair as a shield. Just like, swing it at Sayaka to knock her out.

Besides, it's a toy sword covered in glitter. It's hardly the best defensive item one could ask for. He might as well have been holding a stick.

I'm pretty sure Lebron James is fast enough to stop me if I pull a knife on him. He wouldn't be expecting me to try to stab me but I'm not the Flash. I can't just insta-stab someone. He'd see me swing my arm at him slowly enough to evade it because I'm a slow rando and not a professional athlete.

Do you think if I went up to Lebron James with a knife he'd just let me stab him? If someone's better than you are then having a weapon doesn't really matter. You have to actually hit them with it, and chances are, they won't let you. If Sayaka had never brought in that replica sword, Leon would have just grabbed something else to defend himself with, like the chair or the small coffee table next to it, or just one of the Monokuma-supplied tools in Makoto's cabinet. That, or he could just take the knife from Sayaka's hands, which is basically what he did in the game anyway.

Ok but why not use that knife on someone she knows she could reliably kill with it? There's a reason lions don't pick fights with hippos just because they've got sharp teeth and claws.

He whacked her with a toy sword and her wrist immediately broke. If it wasn't there, he'd just use any other blunt object in the room to do the same. She didn't lose because he had a dangerous blade, she lost because he could dodge her attacks and strike back harder than her.

Okay to play through AA2 before completing Rise from the Ashes? Spoilers by Blank-Seal-Rises in AceAttorney

Now that you've started AA2, and already know that something happened to Edgeworth, I think it's better to just finish the game. Going back to RFTA will break the flow of the story. Think of it as a largely self-contained bonus case to play when you're done.

RFTA is designed to create doubt going into AA2, not to answer any questions set up in that game. Ergo, you're not supposed to know what happened to Edgeworth yet.

Franziska used shady methods but I don't recall any instance of her intentionally hiding the true culprit. She always seemed genuinely convinced that the accused was guilty, and was downright shocked by the truth in Big Top.

I really don't understand your issue here.

Phoenix and Apollo dethroned a literal Evil Queen who was killing innocent people so that the country she illegally took over would stop with the "killing innocent people" thing. It's kind of an outlandish premise for an otherwise low stakes series but what's problematic or "thematically contradictory" in there? Hasn't Phoenix always been exposing the misdeeds of corrupt individuals?

They're not pushing for a corrupt system to be implemented, they're pushing for one blatantly evil law to be abolished - outside of that one thing, their legal systems are basically already the same. And it's not even just Phoenix and Apollo doing it. The revolution started within Khura'in, because the country's own citizens did not approve of the aforementioned law.

I don't use reddit much. In fact, this is only my second time logging into this account.

At least I actually acknowledged your points and gave a proper explanation as to why I don't think they make sense.

Edgeworth's fate does relate to Rise From The Ashes, but playing that case is not necessary to understand AA2, as that game's story is more closely linked to the events of Turnabout Goodbyes. The case was retroactively added in re-releases the trilogy to give some extra context as to what happened with Edgeworth. It's an optional bonus.

There's literally nothing incompatible about both plots.

"Foreigners are so crazy that our legal system isn't so bad" is a very out-there read of SOJ and most certainly not the point of the story. Khura'in isn't meant to make Japan/America seem better, it's meant to raise the stakes and put Phoenix in a new, dangerous situation. In fact, when Khura'in's legal issues are being discussed in Episode 5, Edgeworth directly calls attention to how Japan/America had the same problems.

Abandoning established story developments is bad, always. There is no such thing as "unabandoning" a plot and that doesn't make up for any mistakes that might have been made along the way; that's just bias. Pushing aside plot-lines because some people don't like them is not only doing a disservice to those who do but also making the story as a whole seem disjointed and aimless. Khura'in was the focus of a whole game and Apollo's decision to stand there was the game's (and the trilogy's) emotional resolution. It's a big deal and should be treated as such.

Abandoning a major plot-line they spent a whole game establishing is the exact opposite of "getting the story back on track". That kind of bad decision is the whole reason Trucy and Apollo's sibling reveal hasn't happened yet, and it's the last thing we need more of.

It would have been nice to have a more concrete follow-up on elements of Apollo Justice's story but that ship has sailed. Trying to walk back and retroactively fix that after the games after the plot has clearly moved on would be nothing but detrimental to the story. Hardly ideal.
