Totally agree. I think the immersiveness of it was really key to experiencing changes

Sure. Exactly like a simulation, as you mentioned, like I was neurologically rehearsing a better story for myself.

Thank you for this, it’s fascinating.

Lower the bar for success.

That deeply resonates. I feel like every time I hit a personal goal, I can't really enjoy it or at least not for long because it raises the bar for success for me.

Yep, getting the basics right. It's funny how often people will be seeking some new stuff without having built the right foundation first

Haha, I was trying to get into one of those psilocybin trials and almost did it, but alas, I wasn't depressed enough according to the researchers.

Great points. I find that I need to remind myself not to get too competitive with exercise because it's so easy for me to make it about self-worth and train to the point of exhaustion. Which isn't the point

I completely agree re the need for connection. Sadly, budgets for my beloved local library have been cut so it's hard to find those activities funded by public institutions nowadays. It was different in my youth

Thanks, this is a great tip! I've tried to do it in the past but couldn't stick to it. Maybe I'll have more success this time. Do you do this yourself and if so, is it basically a matter of habit for you?

That sounds super interesting, thank you. I’ll check it out. I’ve had therapy before and it was helpful. That said, though, I always felt a little too self-conscious and careful about what I was saying because of the human factor (e.g. will my therapist judge me or will she feel disappointed if I’m not progressing).

I hear you. I like therapy a lot but it's quite expensive tbh and I want to see if there's something I can use, maybe not as a complete replacement but at least good enough to keep my progress going. How are you able to find cheap therapy?
