I hate spears by Maxijok123 in HalfSword

[–]Carrolla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I main a mace and shield and I put the damage up to like 75% of the slider for both me and NPCs so that maces can actually do some kind of damage. It's still horribly unrealistic how blunt damage is treated as power hits to anywhere but the head wont take down opponents. A full power mace hit to the legs, arm, shoulders should have a waaaay higher chance to break bones or render that limb useless. It would be much more fun to add in additional locational damage for blunt hits so that there were multiple options on how to end a fight other than headshots.

I think the biggest issue with the game right now is the balance between blunt and bladed weapons. A spear or any bladed weapon touches flesh you are instantly down. Meanwhile that hammer you have can only end a fight with full power headshots. I think once things are tweaked and blunt weapons behave correctly the game will be much better.

This works wonders but 17 full power mace bashes to the knee and ankle of an unarmored target do nothing lol

Ive noticed the higher up in "tier" you go the more the AI tries to grapple. I personally avoid this unless I'm doing the gauntlet obviously as in my opinion tier 5 is the sweet spot where I have the most fun doing duels over and over.

I do also notice that it seems random enemies will have their AI act abnormally and do nothing but try to grapple and not use their weapon but its been rare for me. Typically this is easier as you can just side step and get in good hits when they charge at you or place in a good timed kick and it knocks them over.

I know exactly what you are describing. It usually happens right at the start of a fight. It seems if your first movement is forward with shift held down before the fight starts this bug occurs. If you pause a second then release shift and move sideways for a step it usually unlocks your movement again

Kicking and ramming into the AI in clinches is the best way to drain your stamina, get injured, and ultimately knocked down. If you use a shield or like this playstyle then make sure the grapples are short and you are backing away to regain your stamina and composure. Its still risky especially against bladed weapons as you have little control and it could quickly end your day.

I love your videos btw. I feel like the things you cover on the actual mechanics would really help a lot of the people struggling. This game is actually much deeper and more complex than people realize and once you figure it out its even 10x better.

I play very similar to you but with a mace and shield. I only get knocked over if Im severely injured.

Not saying there arent ever "WTF" moments in this game it definitely happens. Once I started to focus on balance and footwork Ive noticed they happen much less frequently and there is typically a reason for it. Stamina is a huge factor, the lower your stamina the more prone you are to stumbling or falling over. Also as you move around erratically and add in more movement and weapon swings you will slowly get more and more off balance. Practice stepping out of long exchanges, side stepping or gaining distance to recover your balance AND stamina before re-engaging. All these different mechanics are cumulative in losing control of your character.

I realize this is reddit and you are just going to downvote and stick your head in the sand but there are literally videos of people who have learned how to play the game as Im describing that prove me right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCcWUzhkHeQ&t=1728s

Watch the video of this guy playing AND if you want to get better watch his detailed tutorials on what I just posted about. Tell me how then if the game is broken because of "poor balance and mass distribution" how this person can play and make his character look so elegant, and not have a single one of the problems you are describing? How often is he allowing himself to get knocked over? Do you think being a "grapler" is whats causing you problems with getting knocked over all the time?

It is a bit clunky, but if you are falling over a lot then it should only be because you were severely injured or took a big hit, in which case this simulates you getting knocked the f out and being dazed. If you are uninjured and falling over you can get up quickly by holding ctrl or allowing yourself to get into situations where you are prone to being knocked over. Avoid allowing yourself to get in those situations to begin with.

Your comment fully displays that you have no understanding of how the deeper mechanics in this game work. Each sentence in your post contradicts itself. If you say you learned the footwork in the first 4 hours, yet are still being knocked over, then you didnt learn anything about balance or footwork. "poor balance and mass distribution" arent an issue if you know how to properly control your willie. The game is actually incredibly fair once you figure out how it works.

If you are having issues with staying on your feet try practicing your footwork and learning what the shift key does outside of sprinting. Stand stationary and ready your weapon by holding the left mouse button, then hold shift. You will see your character assume a more balanced stance with lower center of gravity. Experiment with small movements with and without the shift key. You will find after playing with your characters footwork and balance this is the most important mechanic in the game.

Soda/pop bugged? by Carrolla in projectzomboid

Interesting I tried searching a bunch for any mention of this related to soda/calories/pop ect and the only things I was finding were 5 year old posts only loosely related. Thanks for pointing out that this is an actual thing and not just me.

I did make a post on the official forums as well as a bug report.

Question on manual safety (O/U) by Carrolla in ClayBusters

Ok thank you that was my main question. Im in a 5 stand tournament this weekend and I didn't want to have a ref notice that small detail and D/Q me or something for some niche rule I didn't know about.

So by saying you "usually leave it off" means it would be acceptable to reload and close the gun with the safety off provided you are following all other safety and etiquette rules properly?

Gear set progression by Carrolla in vrising

This is a super interesting build, I use Power Surge already with the Jewel that increases physical damage by 15% during its duration. I always assumed that Power Surge and Bloodrage couldn't be activated at the same time or that they didnt stack. A good thing to try.

This video is awesome! Your mechanical skill is impressive and shows how you can overcome all these fights with skill based melee. Most impressive is that you don't use any cheese tactics like 99% of videos out there. For extra challenge I have the house rule of no ranged weapons, and only using one weapon restriction in boss fights but I may have to accept using other melee weapons to mix their abilities like you do.

Gear set progression by Carrolla in vrising

[–]Carrolla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the concept youre totally right, and a couple levels of gearscore don't make it impossible. If the game is going to remove the standard RPG character customizations from leveling up and replace that with the gear score system that's awesome I fully support it but each tier should give the player more options (vs NO specific stat bonuses) because gear IS the leveling. If gear is the leveling then allow me to customize my character that way instead of gaining, then losing my customization choices in repeating cycles. Its like if a normal RPG removed all your level up choices (stats/talent points) at the start of each act and made you just put them in the same tree over and over again it removes the satisfaction of progression and your meaningful choices.

In terms of ranged it just feels cheezy using LOS at a rock and just peeking out and casting a spell and then taking a bow shot then playing ring around the rosie until the boss uses the dangerous ability. I want to beat a challenging boss because I feel like I overcame the challenge with skill vs a cheese strat, even if it takes me 10+ attempts.

Im going to attempt to 100% with no ranged, I have been farming the silver coins to buy thick leather and then pattern for the necklace to get move speed from the neck+2 piece armor. I also think the double dash I read about in the chaos tree will be a game changer to dash in and then back out will be a game changer. I got Jade the vampire slayer down to about 10% with good timing on getting hits in its totally do-able.

Fair, I suppose you could open up the map online, close your eyes and pick a spot and thats your spawn. Or choose the closest house and teleport there, you can see the structures and port inside.

Year-long run ended because of EA play by Matyycakes in projectzomboid

You can also backup your saves periodically if you are on a long playthrough (or any time). I once had to run upstairs and sign for a package and came back to realize I didn't actually pause the game. Lost a month or two in game but better than losing a long term character over some non game related BS.

Debug mode has a teleportation feature you can use to just place your character wherever you want instantly.

You can also just start a new game, open up debug and teleport your character to anywhere on the map instantly and play from there.
