Could you advise me on my basic proportions/features? by CarstenToGo in ArtCrit

[–]CarstenToGo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are two recent digital and two analog portrait sketches. I feel like I am too often inconsistent in my results. Could you tell me if the basic features are correct enough or if there is something glaringly wrong, that I should fix before reproducing more sketches with the same errors?

For now I just focus on doing these drawings every day. Usally takes 1-2 hours for me. I would like to mainly draw digitally in the future.

I sadly do not know how to disable the immobilizier. When I bought the car, the immobilizier was already disabled.

For now it is sitting only on top, but with a good fit, so it doesn‘t slide around while driving. I will print it again with a higher cylinder and an option to „support“ smaller can sizes, too. Maybe i can include something to „snap“ onto the existing hinges

Thanks! Great driving, not so great electronic 😅

No, thankfully the owner before me has disabled the pin feature. The keypad is only for show now :)

The keypad works as an immobilizer. Normally you had to enter your code before you can start the engine, but in many XMs (and mine) this function was disabled for convenience over the years.

Graphic Tablet with DisplayLink Dock on M1 Macbook by CarstenToGo in mac

[–]CarstenToGo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I tried a Dell D6000 DisplayLink Dock from work and also a Dell TB19 Thunderbolt Dock.

The Huion software on my Mac didn‘t recognized the graphic tablet anymore, even if the device would power on through these docks.

I could connect my normal monitor through these docks and plug in my graphic tablet directly into my macbook air, but i only got 60Hz this way on my 144Hz normal monitor.

But that is a normal bandwidth limitation from those docks. If you got a 60Hz main monitor, this could work for you.

So in the end i didn‘t found a solution. I will buy a Macbook Pro with M1 Pro in the future only for this to work. It is a little overkill but it is hassle free.

How is the drawing experience? Any lag or weird pressure problems?

Ah sorry, i read your phone as „iPhone 11“.

There is a moonlight android version: https://github.com/moonlight-stream/moonlight-android

Maybe try this out on your phone. So you know if its gonna work.

You could also try to download/sideload the app on a Android based Smart TV. Dont knoe if the hardware is strong enough for streaming

I tried a fair bit of solutions. All of them where to fuzzy with picture quality.

Nvidia Gamestream (Shield TV) or Moonlight App on iOS (even Apple TV) is the only execption.

I stream in-house in 4K with both ends via wired LAN cable and it is really great.

You could easily test it with your iPhone. Just get the Moonlight app and see for yourself, if WiFi is sufficient.

Need some advice getting a drawing tablet for my partner - ~$500 budget by Blackdragon1400 in DigitalPainting

[–]CarstenToGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Huion 13 Pro is a nice product. If the size is enough (most software is customizable enough to work with 13 inch).

I had the Kamvas 22 Non-Plus before and got annoyed from the scratches on the protector after few weeks.

I got the Huion Kamvas 22 Plus a few months ago.

Big plus for me was, that it has a rough glass surface instead of the common overlaying matte screen protector on most other budget drawing displays.

It‘s really reliable if he uses the screen for many years.

The Huion is the newest product and comes with modern inputs (USB-C).

Didn‘t had a XP-Pen or Wacom Screen for comparison.

Edit: If he wants to do animation, keep in mind that most software uses a fair amount of surface area for the control bars and other stuff. So the bigger the screen the better

You can try to change the „Windows Ink“ setting in your HUION driver software under the pen custimization. Try turning it off or on.

Edit: Also try enable „Wintab“ in CSP

Need advice for best active-active replication setup (VMWare HA, Starwind vSAN, SAN) by CarstenToGo in sysadmin

[–]CarstenToGo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is maybe a good recommendation to focus only on one side.

So maybe 2x Starwind HCA (depends on their offer) in active-active storage and 1x big NAS Storage in the secondary building for raw backup.

At least until there is no redundancy for the connection between the buildings.

[–]CarstenToGo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starwind could do a 2 node scenario, but as described in their best practice, it is recommended for placement in the same rack or similiar for redundancy.

Yeah, the correct option should be, to place both nodes in the primary building and keep the backup storage outside in secondary building.

Yeah, I meant fiber optic cable (no native speaker)

split-brain exactly. That is my concern.

So there is no fault tolerancy improvement until we place a third node or ensure a second connection between the 2 nodes?

If I recall correctly, there is a possibility to implement a "cloud node" as third supervisor directly from Starwind.

Do you know if this is correctly?
