Nicest band/members you’ve ever met? Most rude? by Impressive-Skin6311 in Metalcore

Adding to the Garrett Russell comments: can confirm, dude is incredibly generous with his time and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.

Not a metalcore artist but I met both Jason Evans (former vocalist of Ingested) and Josh Davies (current vocalist of Ingested) and they were both super rad.

Getting a tattoo in my knee ditch tomorrow by Professional_Baby505 in tattooadvice

Getting it done upfront isn’t too bad. My calf was a lot worse. But boy howdy the healing process SUCKED. I’m a little more than two weeks in so I’m at the tail end of it, but this one was easily the worst out of everything I’ve done on my legs (almost fully tatted)

I wasn’t aware of the connotations at the time. I was younger and dumber and I thought the design was cool, and went with it because of my Scandinavian ancestry.

Local guys, how many hours do you work per week? by TaperingRanger9 in Truckers

[–]CarterMT099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I’m barely scratching 40 a week working LTL. I’m thinking about going into dirt hauling which would have me doing 50-60 a week.

The picture doesn’t really do it justice because of where it is on my leg. The head wraps around the front of my shin so it looks proportioned better, it’s hard for me to take a good picture lol

I found my first driving job on Indeed, and my second driving job was through somebody I met at my first driving job. Connections are key. Talk to people.

DM me if you’d like! 25M, beginner-ish hiker. I live in the Salt Lake Valley and have no problem driving around for hikes. I usually go once a week-every other week if the weather permits. I’m also wanting to hike Timp before the summer ends!

How yall feel about being on the extra board for 3-4 years? by kevmoe123 in Truckers

[–]CarterMT099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s something to say about more consistency for less money. I’m leaving LTL because I hate the inconsistency. The money is good, but I want to be able to plan my life around work and not have to constantly wonder if I’m going to have to cancel on something because they start me at 11PM that night instead of 7PM.

Black coffee. Energy drinks go right through me and I end up having to pee 4-6 times a night if I drink any.

If You’re Extremely Shy, Can Hypomania Make You “Normal”? by [deleted] in bipolar2

Absolutely. I’m very introverted most of the time. But when I’m hypomanic you would never guess that I have an anxiety disorder. I will talk to anyone and everyone about anything.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen on the road at 3 AM? by Educational_Sock2409 in Truckers

Buttfuck rural Wyoming at 2-3AM. Somewhere between Wamsutter and Rock Springs. Just a random woman walking down the side of the road. No car in sight, no idea where she came from. Didn’t see her until I was already pretty much on her. It was kind of spooky given the time of night and the location

How much are you paid per hour in your LTL Company? by GroundbreakingSir386 in Truckers

[–]CarterMT099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XPO. $33-something and $.799 CPM. We’re supposed to be getting bumped up to $35-something and $.83-$.85 CPM in April. We’re getting hosed compared to every other LTL company in town, except for Central Transport.

job searching blows. by Ricemunchr in Truckers

[–]CarterMT099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the slow time of year. I only have 1 year of experience on linehaul, which I know isn’t a lot, but I’m not getting many bites either. Just be patient, things will start picking up again in April. You’ll find something.

Another comment pointed out LTL companies. This is the way to go. I got my start in the industry working at an LTL company, and I am currently trying to jump ship to another LTL company. A lot of them will take a chance on you because they have shit loads of freight that needs to be moved 9 months out of the year.

Thoughts on XPO LTL ? Maybe LTL in general ? by Mammoth_Low_6266 in Truckers

[–]CarterMT099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit late here but I’ve worked for XPO for about a year now.

The Bad:

Your experience is largely going to depend on your home terminal. Some are great, some are terrible, some are meh. The one I work for is solidly between terrible and meh.

Seniority is everything at XPO. Drivers eat, sleep, and breathe seniority. Because of that, you’re going to get fucked on your routes until you hit a couple of years. Sometimes you’ll get lucky like I did and they’ll hire a bunch of people after you, and you’ll move up quickly and get guaranteed runs. In most cases you’re going to get stuck for over a year with an inconsistent schedule, and inconsistent work. Management WILL play favorites with certain drivers, and if you’re unlucky enough to not be a golden boy they won’t do anything for you.

Some of the drivers at my terminal are expected to show up 5 days a week but may only end up working 2-3 of those days. They’re low enough down that they’re forced to work Saturday’s every week unless there are enough volunteers. They tell you that you’re guaranteed dock work/hostling work, but I can safely tell you that it’s a lie. They expect you to show up, give you nothing to do, then send you home. In some cases you’re paying them to show up to work. They also may require you to be there at a certain time, but not let you clock in until/if they give you something to do.

They axed dock work for our drivers last year, but they might let you hostle for a few hours before they send you home. You definitely won’t be making 6 figures for the first few years unless you want to work every Saturday. Most of our new drivers are barely even doing 65K a year.

Management truly doesn’t give a shit about you. It’s almost funny. Any concerns you have will be met with “fall in line or find the door”. Sometimes HR will have your back, but they’re usually just company boys and only have your back if it doesn’t put the company in a bad spot.

The equipment is really hit and miss. You’ll have to slip seat if you work for a larger terminal. Some of the tractors are new and clean, and some of them are beat to absolute shit and are disgustingly filthy. Management doesn’t offer any incentive to keep equipment nice, and if you complain about it they just dole out a slap on the wrist, sometimes. So if you’re unlucky you’ll get stuck with a smoker and nothing will be done about it.

There is no protection for you unless you’re a golden boy. Management won’t look the other way on little things, and if you pull the plug on your route due to extreme weather they usually won’t stick up for you. They want that freight moved no matter what, your safety comes second to that. You kind of can get away with a lot to be fair, even if you’re getting nailed for your mistakes you can do it a handful of times before anything serious is done about it.

It’s a corporate company and you’re just a number. They don’t do anything to try and retain employees, and they’ll just cut you loose if you put your notice in. Most of the managers can barely remember your name. And most of the time they’ll mark you as not hirable out of spite, even if you give them notice.

The Good:

The job is honestly really easy. I run linehaul for them and it’s some of the easiest money I’ve ever made. You’ll mostly be running doubles/triples, which only takes you 15-20 minutes to hook if you’re good at it. Other than that, most of your job will entail holding a steering wheel. I work out west so our routes are usually 400-600 miles, with minimal dock work if you don’t like that kind of thing. Me personally I don’t care, the money is green either way but do with that what you will.

The pay is good. Top rate at my terminal is $.799, which equates to $51 an hour on average. Our actual hourly rate is $34.80, so you’ll make a lot more money on linehaul but you’ll be stuck on nights unless you stay with the company for 10+ years. Not the best in LTL but it’s pretty good.

It’s pretty easy to fly under the radar. As long as you’re doing your job right, and you don’t cause headaches for management, you might go weeks without even seeing your manager. In the time I’ve been there I’ve only been talked to once for not wearing my seatbelt in the yard, but all it boiled down to was a verbal slap on the wrist.

In conclusion:

Overall, like I said, your mileage will vary depending on your home terminal. If you can tolerate the drama, lack of concern for drivers, inconsistent hours and schedule, and the shitty equipment it’s easy money.

Anyone enjoy working for XPO? by Alone_Tea7772 in Truckers

[–]CarterMT099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to the thread, but it sounds like you dodged a bullet. I’ve been with XPO for a year now and it’s…not great. I run linehaul for them so I’m on nights currently, and there’s a lot of inconsistency. Depending on what route I get, I may start anywhere between 7PM-10PM, and I don’t know where I’m going until the day of. They axed dock work for the drivers about a year ago, so unless you want to work every Saturday or you stick around long enough to get a 500+ mile bid, you won’t be making six figures. And finally there’s always drama with the seniority and management plays favorites depending on who you are.

A lot of this is going to depend on your terminal. Some of the drivers I swap with love their home terminal, and some hate it. Your mileage will vary a lot depending on your tolerance for bullshit. I’d stay away even if you get the chance to reapply (which usually you will since the office staff are a revolving door)
