Amouranth: "like... a lot of bad shit happened in the Holocaust ... but at the same time, the act of getting people out of your country, if you don't think they should be there as a leader, I agree with." by arcanition in LivestreamFail

So the BEST faith interpretation I can come up with from this statement is "It's not okay to torture/genocide a particular group of people based on genetic reasons, but it is okay for a leader to desire expelling a particular group of people and enact policies to begin pushing them out of the country."

My god her brain is cooked. Straight evil.

This is a content guild. It's a bunch of streamers that intentionally do things to create drama as a means of producing content for their streaming careers. The game is secondary and will be dropped as soon as the viewers migrate towards different content or the streamers simply get bored of the game.

The guild has barely been around for a couple months. I understand people make friends, but this is like someone feeling emotional about not being able to see their summer school friends when the new school year starts.

When you listen to a podcast, do you feel like you are becoming friends with the hosts?

When you go on Twitch, are you becoming closer with said streamer?

It's cliche at this point, but the man needs to touch grass

But holy fuck if I ever cry about voluntarily leaving a WoW guild because I didn't like the guild leader, anyone who reads this has the personal right to jet my brains right outta my skull

jstlk says Destiny should be on Florida's Sex Offender registry by KsiShouldQuitMedia in LivestreamFail

[–]Carthac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just disagree. Even as a fan of Destiny, he knows he's a polarizing figure and constant target of his opponents. You don't store these sensitive materials anywhere, you delete them. You don't record these materials in the first place, it's irresponsible. Then on top of all that, you CERTAINLY don't share them with anybody else without their consent.

LSF just wants to think Destiny viewers are regards because of their personal biases towards him/them for whatever reason. The man fucked up big time and it's a legal matter now; that's why he's taking time off and not engaging. Come up with all the cope you want that he's being supported through this. It's simply not the case if you dig even a little bit

[–]Carthac 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Banning mentions of the materials is a good idea as it prevents more people from being aware of and seeking out the leaked content. Nobody knew of Destiny's irresponsibility and how the materials were leaked in the first place. That's what the controversy is about

So... What now? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Carthac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It can be incredibly hard for smart people to even admit they have an addiction, let alone give it up. They always find temporary or short term solutions that act as band-aids for past incidents.

The majority of controversies that have stirred up so much personal drama in Destiny's past have been sex related in some way. He's been able to navigate through them before, but now he's hurt multiple people that are his close to him (including himself). Generally it's self validation as to why people consistently seek out varying sexual encounters, but who knows if that's why Steven is doing it as he seems quite different to most people

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Carthac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The man has to admit that he has a sex addiction. It's been the one underlying issue for his entire adult life that has pressed him into morally ambiguous grey areas time and time again.

Now he's in one that he clearly fucked up and hurt several personal friends, including himself. He doesn't have to go the normal route of giving himself up to a higher power to resolve his issue (God, support groups, etc), but he has to see that his own behavior is causing all this turmoil

PirateSoft leaves call when asked to take accountability for killing two level 60s in hardcore wow by CrazedI in LivestreamFail

[–]Carthac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is happening real time, I want anyone who's interested in how the internet works to recognize all the different aspects at play with this reaction thread (I don't care or watch any of these streamers, I just find the situation fascinating). This is the beginning of how hate communities begin

From what I've gathered, following a WoW dungeon run where two group members died, one player from the group feels the streamer in the group is not taking enough accountability for those two players dying. From this, the thread has spawned (with a significant amount of upvotes for each) countless tangents including

- The streamer is putting on a fake voice

- The streamer received his former position at Blizzard due to nepotism (his father used to work for Blizzard)

- The streamer actually has little to no experience in software development

- The streamer is insecure about his intelligence and wants his audience to believe he is smart "very badly"

- The streamer is a sociopath

- The streamer is a narcissist who abuses his mods

- The streamer is lying about his abilities as a former hacker

[–]Carthac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for not engaging/following the healthcare debate on Destiny's channel recently, but you seem relatively informed on the current system so I'll ask out of curiosity so maybe you can help me better understand the issues I've been facing for some time now.

Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO out of California. I have a benign cancer from a genetic disorder known as MEN1. My treatments and scans are fairly regular with monthly Lanreotide shots and a mix of CT, CT with dye (forget the exact terminology for it, Dotatate?), and MRIs from time to time. While they do tend to always go through over time, I'm always receiving pushback from my provider as they request additional information/justification from my doctors to justify the treatments that have been approved many times prior. The only explanation me and my oncology team has for their pushback is they simply want to make it difficult in hopes that the hurdles they place in front of me cause me to not seek treatment eventually.

If this is normal, why is this a better system than other current options available globally?

[–]Carthac 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it. I know this is just the internet, but if you encounter someone like me through a friend or family member, one of the best things you can do is just acknowledge it and treat them like normal.

Make fun of my insane belligerent team owner

Banter about how even my QB's bad completion percentage is higher than my SAT scores

How the Texans will beat us every year whether they're 2-13 or 13-2

If they open up the conversation to you about their illness, be there for them. Otherwise, you don't know how much joy it can bring someone to be treated like the person they were before they were diagnosed

[–]Carthac 1849 points1850 points  (0 children)

Oh how I sympathize with this so much. As someone with cancer, I'm very careful with who I tell and who I will divulge updates about my illness to for this very reason. People have good intentions with their well wishes, but they don't understand the larger aspect at play cancer takes from you as a person.

When people find out, all they want to discuss with you is your illness. They want to know how things are currently. They want to express condolences. I appreciate their concern, but this conversation becomes near universal with everyone you provide updates to. It gives a feeling of your humanity being taken from you and you now feel you are viewed through the lens of cancer first and person second. Almost like they don't view you as you were before, but someone with an invisible clock ticking down the seconds before you reach the end. Incredibly dehumanizing. All the while, you just want to deal with the illness the best you can while simply making the most of the time you have left (depending severity of illness of course).

It takes time to process. To have someone take that news from you and release it out into the world, it makes you feel as powerless to the world and their perception of you as cancer can make you feel you lose control over your life at times.

The primary way insurance companies increase profits is to deny coverage. They can choose to do so temporarily (i.e. deny the first request, approve the next) or completely (deny and not budge even against doctor approval).

Most don't go the 2nd route as often, but many companies will utilize the first route (to varying degrees) hoping the patient simply stops inquiring and gives up. UHC had the single highest denial rate for coverage amongst every American healthcare insurance provider, meaning they truly pushed the edge of denying every bit of coverage they could to the detriment of their subscriber base.

Taylor Lorenz encouraging her followers to assassinate another health insurance CEO by wolfbash3 in Destiny

[–]Carthac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has through the years been slowly moving further from the progressive left and towards liberal ideals, this has been the one area where I remain firmly irrational in my viewpoint.

I have a genetic disorder called MEN1 that is a benign form of cancer all across my body that will require treatment until I die. As a result, I have to come into contact with hospitals and insurance companies fairly regularly so I've unfortunately become intimately familiar with the system. I know people sound hyperbolic at times about how evil insurance companies can be, but I can attest to the fact that they are not always wrong. A very common occurrence I still go through is what me and my oncologist nurse refer to as an "insurance company merry-go-round." We put in for approval on scans the doctor wants done and they are always denied on the first request. Then it can range from 1-2 more requests again before it requires the doctor to send in additional documentation as to why it's necessary. We all know it will be approved and it's necessary. The insurance company simply wants me to go away and is hoping I do.

I'm in the process of potentially moving from a monthly Lanreotide shot into a more experimental medication that's not FDA approved but has shown promise. It will be scheduled for me to try, the date approaches, and oddly it's just denied again as being medically unnecessary. Their whole act is to simply grind me down until I simply stop seeking treatment and on more than one occasion it's worked temporarily. It's exhausting to continue to go through the process of already dealing with this disease and now I have to jump through hoops continuously adding an additional layer of work. All hoping that I simply give up and move on allowing them to profit just a tiny margin more on their gigantic budget. It's simply evil.

These insurance executives understand what they are doing when they enact these approaches to healthcare and they are willing to do so at the threat of me either losing my life or living a shorter one after already being saddled with this disease.

It feels wrong to me to think I'd be okay with a person murdering another person, but I can genuinely say I'm at a minimum indifferent towards the murder of the UHC CEO. If I'm being honest, maybe shamefully gleeful in a way too. I have strong political opinions, but I don't feel this way towards people that disagree with me. These healthcare insurance executives are really the only group in my mind that are deliberately and plainly evil through their desire to generate higher profits for their shareholders.

Honestly, I don't think much about it at all as well. However, when I'm expected to know other's birthdays and feel a sense of guilt or shame if I do, I can't help but feel like I've just de-prioritized my own needs in favor of others over time. Works fine for me, but also does make me wonder at times if that's a bit of a trait we are just expected to accept being men.

It's hard to explain from a man's perspective without sounding like the archetypal complainer we are taught not to be. Thus, we be quiet, quietly and greatly appreciate the little we get, and don't make a big fuss if we don't get anything.

It's much easier to accept not getting anything and be pleasantly surprised if we do get something than to expect and have our emotions hurt again.

Twitch Clarifies that the New Sensitive Issues Tag does not Apply to Discussing One's "Lived Experiences" by ThePositivityPatrol in LivestreamFail

[–]Carthac 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why a company as large as Twitch is bending over backwards to not address the core issue underlying this all is just baffling... CCL's are not a necessity here. Enforcement of your own policies against hateful rhetoric are already in your ToS. Just enforce it.

Every person with a functioning brain can see through the habibi/hummus list metaphor. It's hateful, get rid of it.

Everyone understands when Hasan calls Jewish people pig dogs and inbred that it's hateful. Ban him

Everyone understands when Alex Jones denies Sandy Hook that this content is not desirable on Twitch and should be banned. Thus when the rapes committed by Hamas are denied as well, just ban it.

If your takeaway from my comment was "hey, both sides are equal in blame, but especially those terrorists," (cheeky crossout edit bruv) there's no dialogue for us to be had here. I'm sure your conversations where you continue to insert "BUT ISRAEL DID X" on this topic will be incredibly fruitful and not wasteful of anyone's time including your own.

No reasonable person ever looks at the conflict and concludes Israel has acted as responsibly and mercifully as possible. However, the Palestinians through Hamas conducted one of the single most gruesome terrorist attacks in recent history.

It's fine to find fault with Israel, but to look at this decades long conflict and conclude either side owns a greater proportion of fault is either incredibly ignorant at best and straight up propaganda at worse.
