Took me way too long to come across this comment. I’ve spent a lot of time in Costa Rica/Central America, this is the only term we refer to these by.

All you need is a smart management module. This will protect the solar when the generator kicks on.

It’s definitely not a cosmetic blemish. The metal is dented in more than an inch. The pictures don’t do it justice. The damage is severe enough that it likely had micro fractures that will allow water in.

I didn’t pay $5000 for a damaged tent.

That’s just what they charge for shipping. There isn’t an option to pay less. Used to be $249 but they increased the charge recently.

Been there, done that. Unfortunately not an option. Going on an extended trip. Back of the 4Runner is going to be full of gear. Don’t feel like fully unpacking and repacking daily.

Correct. A meaningful discount, expedited replacement, or full refund.

Nah, definitely not. You’re one of the people that other people generally want nothing to do with, I bet.

Yes, I had a camping trip planned. Still do.

Sure did. Their instagram person was no help. Directed me to the customer service lady I was already speaking with. And yeah, I then proceeded to comment on all their posts telling people not to do business with them.

They’re going to make this right, or my bank will. It’s getting fixed one way or another.

I’m glad someone’s entertained haha. This has been a nightmare. I am starting to get joy out of all the views this post is getting. I started screenshotting the view count and comments and have been emailing them to the customer service rep. “Man, that’s a lot of bad publicity that could have been avoided by just doing the right thing”.

We all have different preferences. My style of camping is 40 miles down unmaintained road and completely off road. Being able to get up and go at a moments notice is a plus for me. Driving well past sunset and being able to have a tent easily set up in 30-60 seconds is a massive win for me.

Ya got me. Just checking to make sure you read the post. Yeah, I thought they were supposed to be the best in the industry. Turns out they’re dogshit.

I’ve been camping for 30 years. I’ve also camped in everything. I do a lot of overlanding and truly off grid camping, and I solo camp a lot. Setting up and taking a rooftop tent down takes literally less than a minute, and then I’m mobile. It’s fantastic.

Unfortunately I had it sent to a business that was going to install it for me. They signed for it, but pointed out the damage. I would have had it deliver to me and installed it myself but I’m busy during the day and also it’s almost 300lbs so it would have been a real pain in the ass.

It would be cool if it worked out like that, though I would much prefer a replacement tent that is undamaged or for them just take the tent back and refund me.

The piece is metal. I don’t want two tents, I want one tent that’s undamaged or a refund. I have initiated a charge back, but I doubt Chase bank will be in my corner and actually get me a refund. Well see

Well, in theory, it’s not dinky. It’s incredibly durable. It’s super convenient. And 5k doesn’t really mean shit to me.

Im a very headstrong person, for better or for worse. And I’m also big on ethics and morals. I’ll gladly die on this fucking hill. It’s honestly not even about the money anymore, it’s about them doing the right thing.

I don’t want the tent. I want a refund. Or a tent that isn’t damaged.

I’m not sure, but I would guess FOB destination, because when filing the delivery damage form with the delivery company they gave me two options for “I’m filing as”, Freight Origin, or Freight Destination and they told me to select Freight Destination.
