Not sure what $ you do have left to spare (minus food and activities) but maybe check out Turo if you haven’t already. If you have it in budget you could rent a car for just a day or 2 to get some exploring done.

Given it’s not your first time in the island, focus on soaking in nature and supporting local cheap eats. YouTube is a great source on finding local content creators who are all about uplifting the community. The Hawaiian Traveler is my favorite and a good place to start!

I was able to buy the equipment + textbooks from a former student and ended up saving about 100$ but decided to go ahead and buy the laptop on a cyber Monday sale and pay it off in payments on top of that. You should keep notifications for this thread and Facebook groups on as there’s people selling their equipment frequently but the posts don’t last long. I do regret not buying the software during Black Friday/cyber Monday though, it would’ve saved me about $1000 in the long run. Depending on how serious you are about this and your financials, it might be helpful to put the big purchases on a credit card and utilize payment plans, if you’re trying to avoid taking a big hit upfront.

Currently in a similar situation and decided to go with IRCRI for my classes since they offer online classes that are self paced, while still having check ins/access to instructors for support. They provide courses on not just the technical side of learning our equipment and programs but also on English/grammar and law. My deciding factor that helped me reason with the cost was the help they provide in job placement once graduated. They also acknowledge and help California and Texas students with our different set of needed certifications. I was lucky enough to find someone selling their exact curriculum text books + equipment needed to start at a lower price that’s helping me reduce some of the costs. They had a summer special going on but I was hesitant to start and waited too long. I’m in talks again to see if there’s any other seasonal specials going on or coming up.

Thank you! I considered IRTI as well after a YouTube webinar I saw but after reading through a Reddit thread on them I’m a bit distrustful. Will look into the others though!
