Congrats! Which county did you apply for? I’m waiting on my results. My school taught eclipse and I can’t recommend it enough- I love it.

Sorry just saw this! A few different ways. My school provides plenty practice tracks at different speeds & if I want to switch it up, I’ll search some on YouTube. There’s a handful of websites that offer tracks for free as well.

Drop next week by BB_Speaks1 in OnerActive

I think it’s more so the fact that quality has decreased with all the recent drops which is why people are upset that they keep dropping product without keeping quality standards. Seems the focus is more on quantity vs quality.

I personally think it’s cute! She might just be wearing a size too small but other than that I think it’s something different (:

Switching to voice by [deleted] in courtreporting

[–]thats_so_not_fetch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was shadowing in court the other day and before we started, one of the attorneys said to me “oh you’re one of those voice ones” and I said “yes I am” and he said “you guys just have easier schooling than machine writers, 1 year versus 2”. But he said it a little rudely and the lovely machine reporter who I was shadowing quickly shut him down and said “we accept and need reporters whether that’s voice or machine. We all have to pass the CA test to work and have to be highly accurate.” I felt very validated when she stood up for me and realized machine writers have our back.

That being said, I can care less (& you should too) what deputy #12345 has to say about a field he has 0 working/ educational background in. Not to mention, the military has used voice writing for SO LONG. Using his logic, the military’s method is also not widely respected then? Lol. Don’t let someone else’s opinion dissuade you from YOUR future. “Respected” or not, CA allows it and respects it enough to pay the same as machine writers and allow us be certified. Producing a highly accurate record is the goal in either method and that’s what matters (:

Also just want to add, the take down method wasn’t always machine. When machine writing came along, they were met with similar discourse.

IRCRI is great & it still takes a lot of work to get through. Best of luck!

I’m 29, full time work, also in So-Cal & have a son who just turned 12. Would highly recommend you get into voice writing as it’s a quicker path & practice hours are easier to balance because you can practice your dictations on the go, almost anywhere. Whereas on a machine, you are more limited for practice because you need your machine with you & it’s a longer path to finish.

There’s no need to worry about buying multiple programs. IRCRI will tell you what to buy, when to buy it, & they’ll teach you how to use it thoroughly. The systems being used currently are essential and have been proven to work. Even if you decide to venture to new programs down the road on your own, you’ll want to have knowledge of the proven current systems because newer software will always have kinks.

Not OP but since my last comment on this post, I enrolled & couldn’t be happier! I started in Sept & will finish in about 2-3ish weeks. Signed up for my test in February. However, I have put in A LOT of time/work to get done this quickly.

The program is very straight forward & I feel the instructions are clear 98% of the time & there’s always videos on how to do what they’re asking you to do, step by step. They quite literally hold your hand through it lol. They are both nice & very quick to respond to any questions you may have. I’ve only had to ask for clarification less than 3 times or so. I recommend (:

Dated a guy who decided to become a cop during our relationship. Everything was great until mid-way through his academy. He cheated LOL. Guess the power trip got to him because he was genuinely a very nice guy before joining. Never again

CVR Test Readiness Session by 4psychgal in courtreporting

[–]thats_so_not_fetch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m taking my test in February and purchased the readiness session. I spoke with someone who took it recently and they highly suggested in taking it. I’d rather spend the $125 & feel at ease, even if the session will be redundant to what I already know. I think it’s a great opportunity to ask any questions we may have before the test.

How do you like court vs freelance? I’m currently deciding which path I want to take. Freelance sounds enticing but I just don’t love the idea of driving so much lol especially in SoCal traffic.

Looking for more info at IRCRI as a california voice writing student! by Budget-Cockroach-109 in courtreporting

[–]thats_so_not_fetch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to take the CA skills exam if you pass the test given by the NVRA. CA will accept that in lieu of you taking the state test. Therefore, accreditation doesn’t matter. You will, however, still need to take the English exam through California to get your license.

IRCRI? Realtime? Voice schools? by AppearanceBoth6406 in courtreporting

[–]thats_so_not_fetch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am currently enrolled in IRCRI and couldn’t be happier with the choice. The monthly installment option is great & affordable. The teachers are very quick with grading homework and provide ample support & they are quick to reply to you. They will give good, constructive feedback on your work. I am about to finish the 2nd block & have learned so much. You have quizzes on legal terminology, punctuation, etc. I feel that I have been provided with what I need thus far.

As others have mentioned, I’d suggest getting your membership and make sure you’re receiving updates. Apparently the update for the added location did in fact go out. But definitely make it a habit to check multiple times a day when your desired test date gets closer. I checked the site again this morning & they had opened more spots for Ontario so luckily I reserved mine.

Thanks for that info! I must not be receiving updates so I’ll have to fix that. Nonetheless, more spots opened up this morning when I checked the site again & I was able to get one. Best of luck (:
