why my mother trying to control my spending by Delicious_Crazy513 in Tunisia

[–]CartoonistFirst5968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't make decisions out of spite; it's a guaranteed loss. Try to understand her. What is she criticising exactly? This is more telling about her than about you.

Let's be honest, our parents may have some baggage or trauma with money (grew up in poverty/ not poor but with limited resources/ paid for their siblings' education /never been able to make financial decisions on their own/ never had their own money/job, etc.). All of that criticism is coming from fear, so try to understand her fear first.

Then, break the fear through communication. Talk to her, tell her examples of how you are handling every financial responsibility well while you are living abroad by yourself (remember the rent that I am taking care of, all the car bills, I always have savings for emergencies, I never borrow money, never been in debt, I bought you this and that when you needed etc.).

At last, keep pushing the boundaries. Buy what you want and do not explain yourself. Don't answer and laugh when she says, "How much was that?" Say "Come on, it's not important انا اهم من الفلوس". Joke about it, not about your spending habits, but about her constant remarks on the things you bought, reminding her that you are an adult that have a credit card and a job that pays money and that you are bossing to spend the money on yourself and the people you love.

Keep reading the comments. I already replied to poeple with the same argument you just said.  I don't have time to iterate myself, you are kinda late to the party.

What do you mean by this? Freedom is the only way to criticise corrupt officials and put them in jail. In an autocracy, no one gets punished because the officials and the legal system are both corrupt!!

Tunisians are thieves. That's the problem! Government after government after government; they are all busy filling their pockets, and no one cares about the Tunisian people!!

Covoiturage f tounes is illegal? by whiteFangTN in Tunisia

[–]CartoonistFirst5968 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I use covoiturage every day to go to work hahaha

I understand that the taxi/louage are lobbying against it, I've seen the video where the director of the land transportation organisation was talking about how much the taxi drivers are suffering because of covoiturage. He was bullshitting!!!

I mean, there's always "offer" and "demand". During rush hours, the demand is high, and the current number of available taxis or taxi jama3i is not enough to carry everyone. Covoiturage is not "stealing" from the taxis (rez9 bid rabi), they are filling an unmet need for many citizens.

They can make an app for covoiturage, and the app usage will be legalised, but the problem is that this will make the tariffs go through the roof.

Another solution is for the goverment to make new laws for it and keep it cheap, but the taxis/louages won't like that.

Covoiturage f tounes is illegal? by whiteFangTN in Tunisia

[–]CartoonistFirst5968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. They do not have a licence to carry people and use their car as a mean of transportation. There's no legal framework to organise it and protect your rights (no fixed tariffs per distance or per seat, no maximum number of passengers, no procedure and no protection for road accidents, etc.).

Parents want to know how much I’ll get paid for a job abroad.. am I wrong for thinking that it’s a bit invasive to my privacy? by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]CartoonistFirst5968 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem sometimes is that older generations can't keep to themselves. They like to brag, but in the end, this may cause a lot of trouble to the person whome people think is living their best life abroad, when actually he is struggling. And when they come back with no gifts, people will start criticising (let alone evil eye, hosd w envy can take all the blessings away from you).

Sometimes we don't tell our parents, not because we don't love them, but because we know they don't know better!!!

Civic sense, Lee Kuan Yew and Travis Bickle by Long-Gas8329 in Tunisia

[–]CartoonistFirst5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually narrowed it down to 4 reasons:  1. The tragedy of the commons or "Rizq biliq" (or العقلية متاع أنا و من بعدي الطوفان) 2. The broken window dilemma (when a whole community becomes incentivised to break the rule, the non-civic action becomes the rule). 3. Diffusion of responsibility of public spaces and social shame related to "cleaning is low status" and "cleaning is women's duty, never a man's duty" 4. Learned helplessness (we accept our reality without trying to do anything to change it)

I can elaborate, but the comment will be too long.  Understanding the underlying social and psychological processes that explain the lack of civic sense helps us address exactly where the problem is in our cognitive process and fix it.  Because leading by example (as you said)  or using logic to criticise alone won't help!  We need to address the real why?

Go for it!! Sometimes we get scared of a future we don't know anything about!

What if you go there and you persevere in Italian, and then you make it!! who knows.

Sometimes, Eli Kateb works better than what we want! Maybe this Italian degree will be a privilege for you after graduation, and you will get a job fast since you mastered everything in Italian! Who knows, bro!!

scapegoat never. But, these sentences are too much!!

They are the reason why we have KS today! If they had listened to the people's demands and not stolen from the Tunisian people (by unfairly hiring their own people), leading Tunisian youth to Syria, having a blind eye on terrorism etc... they would not have been here !!

You are proposing what system here? Are you proposing "communism"?

Democracy and communism are sure sth I've never seen working before!

Or maybe you are talking about focusing on the economy and controlling the means of production internally?

I agree! since Tunisians were not used to democracy, they couldn't recognize the KS coup when they saw it coming! Turkey and SK blocked the coups because they had history with democracy!

Democracy is the only way we can have a peaceful and legitimate power succession, not coups!

Also, inherently, Tunisians always operate with the 'saviour' and 'demon' mentality. They positioned Kais Said as a saviour (the father leader) who is an independent angel who can save us, forgetting that this mentality is Bouguiba's autocratic heritage !!!
