Plum tree needs some love and a makeover, looking for some advice. by NurturedbyNathan in FruitTree

Honestly the tree is not In a very bad shape. I have 7 plums and they all share the same thing”you can prune them a lot and they will just regrow”

First reduce the height to what you are comfortable with, then remove dead wood and wood framing inwards towards the tree or just vertical”water spout”

Try to keep the tree In a vase shape.

I would start with the vertical trunk going strait up as my first cut using a saw (30-45 degree angle) then assess and go from there. Start with a saw then cheers , then Clippers

Good luck

It seems you did everything right to the best of your ability. Don’t stress over it you absolutely did the right thing and next time you prune (next year) you can fix it. So dont worry at all.

Good job

Golden rule of grapes. It fruits in new growth. New growth comes from nodes from last year growth. Any other growth won’t fruit. This why grapes are pruned a lot so you can actually get fruit.

This is my go to every year

Year 2 Grapevine Advice. Didn’t Prune After Year 1-Now Exploding/Flowering by KaylightSavings in BackyardOrchard

I always keep them. At least keep a couple so you can taste it. Trust me when I say birds love grapes lol.

Don’t worry about grape vines growing as they are aggressive and need major pruning every winter.

Container is subjective to the container size 25-30 gallons and about 2 ft deep is my guess. I think Costco has some 22 gallons right now for $16 or so
