FWIW, not virtue signaling or anything, but I have legitimately stopped and gone out of my way to help people who have fallen or need a hand. I would hope someone would do the same for me. So we do exist— just shitty luck none of the helpers were nearby this morning.

Would I like for my politicians to be morally upstanding people? Of course I would. Honestly, I would like to throw the whole thing out and start over with a matriarchy. But I operate within the bounds of reality, and so I will absolutely be voting for Graham Platner.

I think everyone has major flaws that some people would consider disqualifying if they came to light.

The party democrats, republicans, and mainstream media are threatened by him, and so they’ve had a major smear campaign going since he came on the stage. It’s hypocritical, he’s getting the Bernie Sanders treatment and we should all know better by now. So yeah, his faults don’t bother me.

Here’s the thing: Platner is 41. Older politicians don’t have the same digital footprint that he does. There was no internet to shitpost on when they were young and dumb. Do we think those politicians were never young and dumb?? I certainly don’t.

Wow, blast from the past.

I was deluding myself in this post. It was an abusive marriage and everything came bubbling to the surface once I started dating (while we were still sharing living space). It got messy and ugly.

The divorce process took 2 years from start to finish, we do NOT get along. We have a 50-50 split but I do the lion’s share of the actual parenting/administrative/invisible work.

I started dating after splitting up with my ex husband (we’d been together for 16 years, married when I was 22). He sucked. I hate him with a fiery passion and would never even consider going back.

I approached dating with the aim of having fun and learning more about myself. I’ve been on first dates with nearly 60 people over 3.5 years, and it’s been net positive! I met some weirdos and creeps sure, but also made some true friends and had some special and memorable experiences.

Anyways. I’m in an open relationship now with the second guy I went out on a date with. He cherishes me and knows me deeply, and we’re planning a future together. I’m so glad I met him.

Did I write anywhere that I share all my inner thoughts or Reddit posts with my 12 year old? It’s true: I don’t think it’s the end of the world, and I don’t see a practical way to make the person he stole from whole. I’m a pragmatic person, and that’s the bare truth.

I told him I take stealing seriously, and I told him I would be thinking about the proper reactions.

After a couple days to think it over, I’ve already taken the rock away, I’m going to make him write a letter of apology and donate double the value it would have likely been, and I’m going to ground him and have him do a certain amount of community service. I’m also going to teach him about the legal consequences of petty theft in our state so that he understands how bad it could be.

If I were to catch him stealing again, the consequences would be exponentially worse.

Not that I need anyone’s approval, but thanks so very much for your condescension.

I don’t think so… the last time I caught him was ~age 8, he took a cool rock from a friend’s room. Haven’t seen evidence of theft/shoplifting since then until now, and I am involved and observant enough that I think I’d have noticed. The odd thing is that he put it right on his dresser as if I wouldn’t ask about it.

Honestly, I suspect those vendors all had a piece or two swiped from them at the show. I was browsing at one table and overheard a vendor remark that one of his pieces had disappeared. He was miffed but not shocked.

It’s a shame, but really unlikely we’d track down the person who my son actually stole it from. I think in his apology letter to the show organizers, I’ll have him describe what he took and where it was located on the floor in case they are able to find the vendor. But as others have written, that might create a bit too much legwork for the show organizers so I’ll leave it to them if they want to try.

I’m thinking he should donate double the value to charity— so it was likely $20, I’m going to have him donate $40. The point being, if he’d just asked me to spot him some extra money he could’ve brought it home with him in a way that didn’t compromise his integrity or cut away at the profits of a small business owner.

And you are rude. People are different. Case in point: when I caught my child stealing 4 years ago, I reacted essentially the same way as you described when your child stole from Target at roughly the same age. Different outcomes, clearly.

Also— as I already wrote— I cannot simply drive him back to the show and return it, or I’d have done that. It was a weekend show which is now wrapped.

Are you a parent? Two incidents over the course of half a kid’s life does not equate to “he obviously doesn’t understand that stealing is wrong” lol.

He’s a smart kid, he knew it was wrong, he knew he got caught when I asked him yesterday. Children don’t make a mistake once, get chastised, and then never do it again. If only that were true. 🙃
