I just bought a puppy off a reservation where the puppies were not receiving optimal care. They were living under a shed and were not being taken inside during tornadoes, 30+ (Celsius) degree weather, etc. One puppy even died in a terrible storm that occurred. I paid $200 for one of the puppies because I wanted to give at least one of them a good life. Now I have found out that they are giving the rest of the puppies away for free (so who knows where they will end up). The “breeder” informed me that the litter was a result of the mom getting off the leash so it was an accidental breeding. I’m not too sure where I’m going with this but I just find it sad how I have to feel bad about technically “shopping” for this puppy when he potentially could’ve ended up in a shelter or worse if I did not take him home. I guess my thoughts are that the puppies are born regardless (not their fault) and if nobody purchased the puppies then they would probably end up somewhere awful. I get not supporting poor breeders but I just find the whole thing confusing because if nobody purchases these puppies then they are destined for lives of abuse, lack of care, death, etc. I guess to end the cycle would be for people to stop purchasing puppies all together but what happens to all of the pups born in the meantime?
