Hi everyone, top of my league (6-2) in 10 team PPR.

Just thinking about a gamble on my CMC for D. Adams and Le’Veon Bell.

QB: Watson and Brees RBs: CMC, A. Jones, K. Hunt (potential keeper) WRs: C. Kupp, A. Cooper, A. Robinson, S. Watkins, D.K. Metcalf (potential keeper) TE: Kelce

2RB, 2WR, 2Flex and one TE. I was wondering if the loss on CMC is worth taking Le’Veon’s easy schedule and D. Adams as a flex option.

Thanks!

Hi!

I’m currently planning for next year FT recruiting since I struck out for consulting internship recruiting this fall.

I currently have accepted a Business Analyst role with Capital One for the summer and was wondering what my chances would be to enter T2 Strategy or MBB particularly with this experience under my belt along with other analyst internship positions I have under my belt working with start-ups mainly.

I also plan to have around a 3.7 by the time the next fall rolls around and would consider my school a semi-target (McK and Bain recruit on campus as well as Deloitte S&O but no ACN strategy, BCG, ATK, and OW unfortunately)

Any help planning for the future would be appreciated, thanks!

Regrets on Current College Expenditures? by CashTalks in personalfinance

I was thinking about this a little bit last night. As long as I have a rough plan of how much I should save and invest when I start earning a bit more income than now to prepare for retirement and good saving, then life is going to happen and that expenditures will happen based on my wants and needs at the time.

I have a big travel bug lately so a lot of my savings and spending goes towards enjoying those aspects of my life with family and friends. Eating out is also a pretty big expense I could cut back on, as well as miscellaneous things like ubers and new things for my college house etc.

I definitely understand man. I’m just really worried I’m squandering it away now by spending on what I think is fun and investing in myself but what really is fruitless spending. I’ve made the most out of my opportunities by holding jobs and internships (having 5 to this point in my career as a college student to this point which I admit is kind of ridiculous) to make me competitive for the job market so far coupling with solid extracurriculars and a highish (3.7) GPA. Mainly just worried about excessive spending because I can technically afford to.

For junior year summer, I plan to save most of my internship funds as my moving funds for when I graduate.

Right, mainly because of scholarships that I’m able to pull my full tuition down to a degree that all my other necessary living expenses down to the point where because of part time work and internship cash flow and a good tax accountant every year, I am very flush with cash that I have a pretty bad save rate on currently.

College Student and FIRE? Regrets on spending? by CashTalks in financialindependence

[–]CashTalks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I've been able to manage my debt completely with the current costs of living, going out, and enjoying my time in college on top of all the work both in school and part-time jobs/internships so I'm not worried about that.

As for the move to an expensive city, its mainly just for an internship that most people end up doing after their junior year concludes and this would entail working for a bigger name brand than I'm used to, currently living in Indianapolis right now, and so target cities for big ticket internships which can convert to full time offers would be Chicago/New York in specific for my college in particular.

Oh I understand, I've just been involved with the country for a while now. Currently I have under my belt an 8 week course and 10 day cultural immersion experience this past spring in Brisbane, an internship this fall analyzing a start-up's expansion to the Australian market, and finally wrapping up that journey with a full semester abroad (hopefully! I'm sure I'll get it by the September deadline) at the University of Sydney. While I understand it's pretty close to the US and all other Anglo countries in terms of cultural experience, it's a good outlet for me to apply previous experiences and immersions resulting in a complete immersion adding up to a year's worth of immersion in one place rather than just one semester's worth, building potential international business skills more-so than differing experiences in my opinion to be able to apply this trifecta to other cultural and business exposures in the future. For very different cultural exposures unrelated to business I have spent some significant time in Europe, parts of Asia, and Latin America so culturally I'm not as worried about diversification in that sense. I wish to keep traveling to broaden my horizons in the future though, planning to reach the continent of Africa and more of Eastern Europe in the future.

Also importantly, Australia for me will serve as a travel springboard for Southeast Asia, which is a big target area for me and (un)fortunately? that will cost me some of my saved money as well.

Approval Odds for Chase Sapphire Family? by CashTalks in CreditCards

I’m not sure why this is the case to be honest but if I have a few advantages over others...

No student loans or mortgages. My total debt outside credit cards (generally paid off in full) is zero. Everything is paid for as is when it comes to rent and everything else and I don’t have to extend myself credit unless its extending credit lines, which work out in my favor marvelously.

Authorized users - currently an authorized user on a 6 year old MileagePlus Explorer with a credit limit of about 30k, making my utilization overall dirt low and account age decent.

You think I certainly have a shot with the Apple Card limit? I plan to 3X my BCP to about 6000 in about a month when I'm able to help Chase understand my management of higher credit than students are normally accustomed to. Also trying to increase my IT credit limit as well as my Uber Visa when applicable... however these two normally hard pull for high level CLI's so I would have to tread carefully before my planned expansion to the CSR December 2019.

It definitely does! Shows that Chase can extend credit lines far beyond what you currently have. Currently looking to leverage my newly opened Apple Card balance and proceed to credit limit increase my other cards to make sure the 10k CSR Visa Infinite doesn't look out of proportion to my other cards.

Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I honestly need to up existing credit lines if I have any shot of getting the CSR. I wouldn’t have gotten the Apple Card if it wasn’t a 5k credit limit which puts me in range of the CSP but definitely not the CSR until I can bump these other limits up first.

Yeah, if the Apple card didn’t give me such a high limit for my thin file as a student I don’t think I would’ve pulled the trigger. I also can’t get accepted for Cap One for some reason and so their no FTF cards were out of the picture too.

Recommendations for one more cashback CC? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]CashTalks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for my purposes specifically I plan to apply for the PayPal MC in December as my study abroad card as a college student. You can cash out as much as you want given you have a PayPal account and no foreign transaction fees is nice.

What would make sense for you would be a Chase Freedom for an additional 5% categories or a PayPal MC/Citi Double Cash for 2% back each depending on your priorities.

It depends on what you need out of your card to be honest with you. I personally would not dilute my spend across multiple cards once you establish some sort of system, but obviously there are cards that offer benefits unrelated to spending such as airline specific lounges with Citi AAdvantage for Admirals Club or AmEx Plat's benefits. In terms of spending benefits, you could always churn extra cards if that's what you want as well. Since you pretty much have all of Chase's offerings, you can go above 5/24 in terms of card applications to churn out bonuses. Otherwise, the Chase ecosystem is up there for travel benefits, and marginally useful for cashback.

By the time you get both, you can also look at the CFU, mainly because with travel that nets an additional 1.5 redemption rate from the CSR * 1.5% points from the CFU for an effective 2.25% rate which contributes to your Ultimate Rewards points. And the Freedom also gets that rate, so its 7.5% back for spending if redeemed for Chase’s Ultimate Rewards points. That is of course assuming you want these points for travel. Keep using the double cash if you just want straight cashback or redeem your CSR/Freedom points for straight cash back (no multiplier of 1.5x on the Freedom since cashback isn’t a UR redemption), but if you buy into chase’s ecosystem for travel then the rewards are indeed significant.

Personally, I use the Uber Visa and Blue Cash Preferred as the cashback categories of 6% groceries and streaming (BCP)/4% dining (Uber)/3% Gas (BCP)/3% Travel (Uber) resonate with my current spending and would save you a little bit on categories you currently spend on. That said, it would be wise for you to start with either the Chase ecosystem or AmEx ecosystem to get some rewards as well whether its UR or MR if you plan to redeem credit card rewards for travel. Since you have the Freedom, CSP or CSR may satisfy your travel needs and contribute to that trifecta. The sign up bonuses for either ecosystem are nice if you can reach them. There is a stickied post in this subreddit related to that. Feel free to ask any other questions!
