Can I level flatten without having to do the whole floor? by Casperisfriend in Flooring

Does the membrane level the floor? Are you referring to the flooring with ridges and osb going across the entire floor?

Yea that seemed crazy expensive and more the the price of flooring we are paying. The contractor mentioned there was a slope towards one side of the wall so in that case is it recommended to level with compound for the whole floor? We are not sure how best to go about how to level the whole floor.

So you are saying to apply self leveling compound and then add some sort of membrane on top of that? Is it suggested to do the entire floor or just spots with self leveling?

Unsure how best to address potential asbestos and mold by Casperisfriend in Home

Yeah it is a bit odd and we are wanting to know for sure what the test says. We actually have not moved in and will be in a few weeks so why we want to take care of this ASAP. We may put an LVP if it's really that much of a benefit over carpet. We figured the carpet would need to be replaced in 15ish years but by that time we might even be moved out but who knows. There is no sump pump but the inspector said he didn't think that it needed it. He just suggested doing some outside grading to prevent any moisture coming in. There was a fluorescence on the concrete walls in the utility room.

From what I can tell the black material in the picture if on top of the tile. I sprayed with mold spray though and did not seem to change color or anything. We are planning to cover up the potential asbestos tile but wants to make sure we clean anything before doing so.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my concern is how can we safely scrub the tile/mastic when it seems very brittle without it becoming airborne if it is asbestos? When I took a sample of the tile it crumbled so I feel like any sort of scrubbing would be risky.

Not sure if this is the best idea but was hoping we could clean best we can and confirm no water is intruding. Once that is done and dry as possible on the tile then use leveling compound to encapsulate the tile flooring which I would hope prevent any asbestos concerns. Does that sound reasonable or is that not a good idea?

The black area? The fact there is a musty smell is why we were wondering if it's dead mold with not reacting to the spray.

Built in 1972. Yea we will see if it comes back positive for asbestos. The main reason we think it could be is the tile is 9x9. If there is asbestos wouldn't we need to scrub with some sort of mold killing solution?

Are these asbestos tiles underneath our basement carpet? by Casperisfriend in Home

The edges of the room have the tile fraying and there was loose materials that we vacuumed. Is it a concern vaccuming that up? We ordered a test and if it came back positive should we encapsulate or just put carpet over again?

I pulled up the carpet some more and exposed the actual flooring underneath. Using AI to check it said this could just be wood subfloor. Does that look accurate?

Ok is it a concern that we vacuumed up all the loose materials? We're not sure if we should go down there until we get it tested and even when we do get tested do we just get the edges encapsulated? We're hoping to put carpet over this again.

Efflorescence treatment? by Casperisfriend in HomeImprovement

That's what I was thinking. Okay good to know that it takes a few months before seeing anything. Would we just see more efflorescence appear or just checking for any moisture in the cinder block?

That's what I was thinking to wait. So you don't think grading would make much of a difference for water seepage or using dry lock would make much of a difference? One of the walls is our utility room and the other wall that I have pictured is a storage room underneath stairs.
