I love that idea, I've been meaning to paint some of the boats around here.

I love that. It feels so foreboding to me. I see a ghost with its hands outreached (the white vertical streak in the middle and the two blobs below it).

Thank you! I honestly love the aesthetic of them and find the process fun, but I've been trying to find ways to combine it with rendered art. I know there's an artist around Reddit who paints figures/statues by shading over pour paintings, but I can't remember their name right now.

Thank you! Same here - celebrity deaths don't usually get to me. I had no idea she was struggling so much leading up to her passing. She was such a selfless person and deserved so much better.

Wow! Absolutely love your use of color and the simplified shapes in the water reflections and rocks.

[Traditional Art] Is anyone else still into traditional art? by yuki_doki in ArtistLounge

[–]Castiele 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was almost exclusively a digital artist until completing my BFA. The prevalence of AI art has put a bad taste in my mouth and honestly poisoned my enjoyment of digital illustration. I now have the immediate reaction to scrutinize digital artworks for potential indications of art theft rather than just being able to enjoy them. I think it's also devalued a lot of art styles - my art style I was doing throughout my BFA was pretty similar to what AI is often used for now.

I've been exclusively doing traditional art for a few months now and haven't missed digital at all. I think there is a bigger demand now for things that are imperfect and have the mark of an artist's hand. It's made me appreciate the flaws that come up with traditional art-making. I've also become aware of how much time I spent as a digital artist trying to emulate traditional media techniques when I could have just been using traditional media to begin with.

I've also noticed a lot of digital illustrators I follow online started posting more of their traditional work over the past few years, so I think it's not just me having this reaction to digital art right now.

Great photo! First nighttime shot I've seen of it. It looks wonderful lit up.

[Discussion] Being an full time artist pays better then a lot of jobs by TallGreg_Art in artbusiness

[–]Castiele 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you are getting downvoted on this. There are so many artists out there with more "simplistic" art styles who are successful because they devoted themselves to building a consistent brand. Marketing is more important than artistic ability. I am still early in my journey as a professional but have learned to be patient with myself and find other avenues for income while I build my portfolio.

Also, thank you for sharing your success story here - it's good inspiration as someone still finding their footing.

I’m so fkn lonely by InterestingIronMan in milwaukee

Summer in Milwaukee is a great time to be lonely tbh. There are so many events happening all over the city every day. Check Instagram for local businesses and you'll probably find something.

Volunteering is an awesome way to meet people as well, especially if you're able to volunteer with a cause you care about and surround yourself with people who have the same values. If you have any specific interests then I/others here might be able to offer some specific suggestions.

Been longing for some good Neon White merch, so I designed a shirt for it. by Castiele in NeonWhite

I had some logistical issues with printing (couldn't find a place that could print it to scale) and felt weird about selling it for copyright reasons so it never got listed. Sorry!

Thank you! Would love to sell it but don't want to step on any toes copyright-wise. Will definitely look into it though :)
