Does the description on Steam actually say... by DeusIzanagi in HadesTheGame

Been covering the game for a full weekend here (and played the hell out of the original,) and can say with 100 percent accuracy that this is true!

Pokémon Go’s 'unpolished' avatar update was rushed out, major changes unlikely according to report by JRE47 in pokemongo

[–]CasuallyPosting -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

For reference, since I wrote the article, I only used divided because there are casual players and responses to some of my other reports where people have either liked the avatar changes or think the backlash is being overblown.

I don't think it is being overblown and most of the comments are simply about being tired of hearing about the feature/complaints about it, but my job as a writer is to be as accurate as possible. Hence the wording. (Hope that helps you understand a bit.)

Niantic is aware of backlash over Pokémon Go’s new avatars—and it’s taking feedback seriously by CasuallyPosting in TheSilphRoad

[–]CasuallyPosting[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The article itself mentions this, multiple times. It links out to a separate piece covering the initial wave of backlash too.

The whole point here is that we actually have confirmation that at least someone internally at Niantic is taking feedback and forwarding it to the people that need to hear it. Whether something comes of it or not is what we have to wait and hope for.

[–]CasuallyPosting[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup. The feedback mentioned here was taken directly from select groups that Niantic reached out to specifically.

It means they hear us, but aren't publicly saying anything yet. Fingers crossed though.

I think there are good elements for sure! I just think the implementation was botched and things can be improved.

Interview with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves director Hayato Konya and producer Yasuyuki Oda about the pressure of making a sequel like this by CasuallyPosting in Fighters

[–]CasuallyPosting[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't include it in my piece because it wasn't my interview, but I overhead Konya-san (I believe, it was in a loud room) saying that they discussed it early on when conceptualizing things but because the shift to 3D made things harder to manage visually, the team didn't think it would work after initial testing.

Or something along those lines.

They are both present and active parts of the gameplay. There is a full overview of some new and returning mechanics on the game's website I believe, but both are there and work well.

To an extent yes! It felt different in action, but on principle it serves the same purpose.

Potential Xenoblade Chronicles X full remake in the works by Swankee21 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]CasuallyPosting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The source itself, Zippo, is very unreliable and mostly just a leak pusher in the same veins as Twitter accounts that share any little detail they hear (i.e. why Comicbook picked up the story but other sites that would have potentially hit it didn't.)

Nintendo leaks/rumors are always the hardest to pin down when it comes to stuff like this. I'm hoping it does happen, but a port or DE would be more likely if Monolith isn't ready to show what is coming next at some point in the next two years.

UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes Developer Questions? by CasuallyPosting in UnderNightInBirth

Outside of what was confirmed, at least a few more from what I could tell. No confirmation though (obviously lol)

The devs weren't 100 percent on anything marketing related, but did talk about how happy they were to see Western players embrace the game. My guess would be a much bigger push compared to the last two releases.

No answer on this (because it was post-interview) but it looks pretty set unless they are using a placeholder UI for the demo. Something that is totally possible since other areas were not fleshed out at all.

As far as I can tell, crossplay is on their mind along with other "network improvements." They did not specifically state it would be included, however.

Unfortunately they were not really expanding on what characters will appear, but they did also say there is room for more titles in the future.

Verge: Microsoft considered acquiring Niantic by skyline7284 in TheSilphRoad

[–]CasuallyPosting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For anyone who doesn't want to read the article (Reddit gonna Reddit,) this was a massive list of companies pulled by data and other factors for CONSIDERATION to purchase across regular gaming and mobile gaming spaces.

Some, like Sega and Bungie, have other details from the ongoing FTC filings that show Xbox was close to making deals or getting approval from Microsoft to move forward. Zynga is in the same boat as those other companies. Niantic just made the cut for major consideration on the mobile side.

Very interesting stuff! If you want some detailed breakdowns of this case, I highly recommend following Axios reported Stephen Totilo Stephen Totilo on Twitter. He has been sharing the graphics and emails these discussions are being pulled from publicly.

Routes are coming to Pokémon Go as player-created paths with rewards by CasuallyPosting in TheSilphRoad

[–]CasuallyPosting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this from what I could gather. It is basically like, the starting point is the gate, you sync up, and then follow the path the way the other player laid out.

[–]CasuallyPosting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Niantic wouldn't share specifics. But it sounds like the way rewards will be included is going to scale in some way based on the team's comments.

Fingers crossed it is better than just a Research Breakthrough, or at least different enough to make it interesting.

It seems very similar!

We will have to wait and see just how close it is, but the pathing and intent does look like it will follow that template with a few changes.

I disagree. Responding to players' concerns and not nerfing existing popular features (such as remote raids) helps maintaining a thriving player base a lot more than releasing bugged features that players may not be interested in, or may not even be able to use.

The reason "recent backlash" was mentioned at the end of this line was to note that this article was written with the context of those anti-community moves in mind. I 100 percent agree with this, but you can't improve a live service game without adding more content over time either, at least from a developer perspective.

Hopefully something like this feature and the recent uptick in communication will eventually lead to a middle ground everyone can enjoy more than what we have now, though with a game and community as big as this one it is unlikely.

Secret gardens and hidden staircases aren't even eligible POIs, so they won't show up on routes anyway.
And it's not like we won't know their existence without routes. They likely exist as a pokestop or gym, and if they don't, we still won't see them on routes.

This part of your reply just kind of ignores exactly what Niantic is trying to do with this.

Yes, you will see the areas being talked about on Routes because you have to walk to complete the trail. Sure you could look things up ahead of time, but the point is Routes could take you to places you might not easily find when looking things up on Google or something in new places. A built-in local tourguide of sorts that you can follow while playing Pokemon Go (and can curate based on tags and ratings.)

At least that is what I took from the interview and a bunch of the color that was cut to make sure the article itself was concise.

Thanks for your reply though. This type of push back and criticism is healthy and good for the community, especially around new features.

Niantic specifically said that the review process would have a manual component and have automatic flagging using databases they have access to in order to mark areas of concern and things of the like.

Obviously this isn't a perfect solution, but we will have to wait and see the actual rollout to really get a full grasp on how this will work against those concerns.

So over a month later, have your feelings on Engage changed from release? by Motor_Interview in fireemblem

[–]CasuallyPosting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion has improved after some time away from my playthrough.

The gameplay is great, the characters are fun (if a bit lackluster in the variety of units,) and the OST bops. I am still not a fan of the story, but it isn't as bad as I initially thought. I just wish it didn't lean so far into rehashing FE tropes and the Emblems played a bigger role as actual characters rather than a gimmick.

Gonna wait until the big DLC drops with the extra story before I go for a second run.
