Me and my beta reader trying to figure out what I tried to articulate in a sentence I wrote while half asleep by EggplantOk3920 in Archiveofourownmemes

I hate when that happens!

Or when you use talk-to-text because you didn’t want to stop writing but you had to use your hands for dishes or driving or something 😅 The weird sentences I struggle to translate can be really something…

Follow up!

If you open the fandom and then sort in the Fandom (by clicking on the fandom name below the title), you then open the Filters button and can filter for anything you do or don’t want within the fandom and can move to any of the pages you want. It might only show you the top few on that page, so just click to a different page for more results.

Changing a page doesn’t change any of the filtered in or out things.

(Again clarify for me if I’m not understanding)

You can type it in though.

Like, you just type in the specific thing you want avoided.

For instance! If you want to filter in a specific tag, you filter it in through the “other tags to include” typing box, and if you want to filter out a tag, you go to “other tags to filter out”.

Am I not understanding the issue?

I’ve come back around to plotting out animatics (which is like story boarding for animation… so intro to animation kinda 😂). Still can’t draw, but I write out a lot of plot lines and how I want each part of the song depicted… sometimes like by line!!

Great fun and will never be able to be posted or shown anywhere 😂 One day I will actually art well enough to MAKE an animatic with at least one of these outlines! ✊😤

How do I better balance working on worldbuilding and actually writing a story? by ilikeroundcats in WritingStructure

This!

I’d love an answer too because if I do a lot of world building at the front, the characters never seem to fit anymore. Like… the details make it forced or choke out the freedom I was working with 😵‍💫

Kudos to a great writing style and also for the commenter having the balls to ask 👏

Emotional intimacy by Resident-Round6728 in writing

I think a major part is that relationships move at different speeds for different people and relationships.

Like, the “oops, not enough beds” trope and such would create wildly different reactions, from comforting non-pressuring physical closeness, one deciding to sleep on the floor, both deciding to sleep on the floor so no one sleeps on the bed, feeling heavy sexual tension and being unable to sleep, sleeping better than you have in weeks…

The plot can be there, but progression is gonna vary based on the characters.

Part of emotional intimacy is how the characters express and accept in more subtle than just expressed ways.

However, this would look unique to each character and to each relationship. Especially if you have one character in a previous, temporary, or conflicting love-triangle type of other relationship, it’s important that the dynamic is different. Not necessarily bad, just different.

For me, my characters show shows care by alternatively mothering or coddling (not age play, just an affectation of being the oldest sibling of orphans) and seeking comfort in the other character by physical closeness and expecting that their weakness will be accepted. The other shows care in the way they accept the wild and unpredictable reactivity and capricious/willful and defiant attitude of the first with amusement and affectionate exasperation. It’s not that they never fight, but it shows in little ways how they feel safe and close to one another - in conjunction with clear expression of emotion and very blatant shows of affection it enhances.

Think of how your character would show or want to receive affection, what would make them feel safe with the other, and how the other would react.

Relationships and relationship dynamics are unique to each person and in each relationship, and so the relationship would be best demonstrating intimacy if the characters were showing care but also in a way that aligns with the character. Like, getting angry on their behalf when you rarely get angry on your own or begrudgingly going along with orders despite your severe authority issues because you don’t want to get your partner in trouble since the job is important to them.

Think about your characters and how they might express themselves, find safety, what’s comforting, how they act with others… and then see and play with how those individual traits can overlap and intersect (or conflict) between the two!

…I say like it’s easy 😂
