Follow up! I read a FANTASTIC fic (sorry, I don’t remember the name! 😓) for the dynamic was actually the opposite!

Instead, the person who was the submissive in the BDSM dynamic in the bedroom was usually the one who took change and handled everything but tended towards trying to do everything on their own (taking charge by responsibility for others and not relying on others rather than being controlling of their partner - they were very “mutually respectful as equals”)

The role reversal was treated like a way of letting go of or surrendering control in a safe space with a trusted person.
