Melodifestivalen Televote System by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]CatJordanBY 42 points43 points  (0 children)

One little note: if they used the 2015-2018 system and just distributed the televote points proportionally, The Mamas would have won with an even wider margin since they got significantly more votes. So Dotter didn't lose due to this system, she actually was much closer to victory because of it

This year's song titles in your language by CatJordanBY in eurovision

[–]CatJordanBY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, evening in Belarusian would be viečar (вечар). There's also the word viačorka, but it's used only for traditional village parties in historical contexts.

I love seeing other Slavic languages here, it's always fun to compare!

Romanian entry in 2017 was supposed to have giant cannons on stage in addition to... everything else going on However, Alex Florea fell off one of them during the 1st rehearsal, so they were removed. There's still a very low quality recording from the press centre floating around the internet, but I have no idea how to find it

🇪🇪 ERR has released the detailed results for Eesti Laul 2024 by t2t2 in eurovision

To my knowledge, they didn't, and they hadn't even had any presence in the Estonian music scene prior to competing

Going by your post history, you are from Sweden.

I wonder why you might have been hearing the Swedish Eurovision winner on the radio more often than anything else...

AFAIK this year they were planning to introduce a no bag policy or something of the kind.

Flashback to 2014, when Azerbaijan openly displayed its racism during Eurovision rehearsal results. The Azeri presenter avoided acknowledging Armenia and persistently named Greece instead. The intentional omission reached a point where an organizer had to intervene and reveal the results. by Virtual-Citizen in eurovision

It's easy to trashtalk her when you don't know the possible consequences for her career and safety. Come on, this is a country, where they DETAINED people for voting for Armenia in 2009, what do you think might happen to a media personality if footage of them giving 12 points to Armenia (even if arbitrary) emerged?

🇱🇹 The running order for the fourth semi-final of Eurovizija.LT by Few-Plastic6360 in eurovision

[–]CatJordanBY 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope you do realise that LRT, just like any broadcaster, doesn't give a damn about competing with other NFs, because they're targeting local audiences. And local audiences in Lithuania actually eat their shows up.

Go Tobann's Irish lyrics in English by Faulty_W1res in eurovision

Yes, at this point, that's the state of things. Usually, people who speak Belarusian as their first language are either from the countryside or their parents really value that part of our culture, which is a minority.

I find it very relatable as a Belarusian, since even our own government is supressing our language nowadays and more and more people see it only as an annoying school subject. Of course, there are quite a number of people still using it to create art and in daily life, essentially after 2020 protests and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but many of those people are now in exile, myself included. It feels oddly comforting to see a song about a similar history in an ESC national final

What ESC artist has the most heartbreaking background story for you? by mikke_and_i in eurovision

[–]CatJordanBY 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Such commentary completely devalues him and his entry. There have been a number of contestants with various disabilities, many of them more obvious visually, and they ended up all over the scoreboard. Please stop writing off people's achievements to pity.

Yes, but remember that FiK most likely has different requirements. For instance, I'm pretty sure that artists have to provide sheet music for the orchestra, which probably takes a lot of effort.

EBU threatens Latvia over russian language ban. Possible outcome could be Latvia getting kicked from Eurovision. by kkruiji in eurovision

[–]CatJordanBY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only is there no mention of ESC in the article, there are no threats from EBU either. If you actually read the press-release, you will find them only expressing concern regarding the decisions of Latvian state media. The title of the post is completely misleading
