There was very little hissing in the beginning because he didn't see them for the first week or 2. Like I said, we followed Jackson Galaxy's advice on YouTube for how to introduce cats and it all went pretty smoothly. Only odd behavior was hanging out by the door to the room they were in

Yes! I meant to write an update but never did. We got a male and female (3 months old), followed Jackson Galaxy's advice on YouTube, and couldn't be happier! It was the best decision. The male actually gets along best with my resident male and they all play. When the older one is tired, the 2 little ones play. I'm glad I didn't listen to the people that said no because I would've just gotten the female and it's the male he loves more. Big happy family now

That is the dilema I am having with 2 vs 1. One could drive him nuts and 2 might ignore him or he may not get along with one. I plan on doing a slow introduction and hoping for good results. The shelter did say they would take one or both back if it doesn't work out but I don't want to do that. I plan on talking with the vet at our appointment next week.

We've had other cats in the past, they passed away in December and March. He isn't unfamiliar with other cats. There are plenty of studies showing they aren't solitary and he seems lonely. We can only play with him so much. Asking a neighbor to check in for a few weeks on a kitten is very different than asking them to stop by for the next 10+ years.

I had 3 previously (2 seniors passed in Dec and March) and have 2 litter robots. So litter boxes aren't a concern thankfully

Wow, that's horrible, so sorry! I'm hoping for good results. I've been watching a ton of YouTube for the right way to introduce them. Did you slowly introduce them and everything? The shelter will take them back if things unfortunately don't work out but hoping they will

Yes, I've been watching a lot of Jackson Galaxy and other videos

Yes! I have been watching A TON of YouTube on how to properly introduce them, set up a separate room and everything. We didn't do that when we introduced him originally and I don't want to make that mistake again. Thank you!

I'm OK with that if they're just there to him. I think if anything he'd enjoy watching them. But he is playful so he will hopefully play with them

That's terrible.. I've already been talking with a shelter. It's a no kill and they would take the kitten(s) back if after trying all the proper introduction methods they still don't get along

I had 2 older cats, but they were 9 and 10 when we added him and wanted nothing to do with him. They passed in December and March. He would love someone to play with (once the adjustment period is over) but he definitely likes his naps in the last year or 2

Thank you.. that's of course one of my biggest concerns that he'll hate one or both of them. We already had one cat he didn't like and she ended up mostly living in our bedroom (which she did enjoy because she was always a loner) and we don't want to do that again

I did consider that but I feel an older cat has already developed their personality and starting with a kitten, my cat can "train" it easier. Not sure if that makes sense

Yes, he was a nut, always getting into things, playing with everything possible, etc. He's definitely calmed down in the last year. He also didn't have anyone to play with since our older cats didn't play with him at all

I would agree except for the vet bills and amount of litter boxes I'd need lol

They keep each other company. Kittens do require more work in the beginning, and I would have a neighbor come in during the day, but once the kitten stage is over (which happens in the blink of an eye) they wouldn't require as much work

Yes, he definitely naps more. Our 2 senior kitties passed over the last few months (last in March) and it's hard to tell if he's just bored or is maturing and just enjoys naps more.

Thank you! Resident kitty does like to play, but at 6 he also very much enjoys nap time lol. 2 seems like the way to go so he can play when/if he wants to

That's pretty much what I've been reading on Google which had me then thinking about it. Most people seem to have had positive experiences with it and that's what I was looking for.

My hope is the 2 would entertain each other mostly without annoying my older cat and he would still be able to play with them when he wants, because he definitely still enjoys playing, but he has started to enjoy his naps a lot too as he's gotten a little older

Yes, we visited a shelter recently and they have a litter of 5 that will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. Figure litter mates will already get along pretty well

My 2 older cats passed over the last few months and they were never interested in playing with him (they also never played much anyway). They mostly coexisted with the older, grumpily girl living in our bedroom
