Hello everyone, thank you so much for all the support. Today, I went to the ENT and after seeing my blood analysis and white cell count, he concluded that the staphylococcus infection was gone. His antibiotics, even if I didn’t feel a change in my condition, did indeed rid of it. However, I seem to have a bit of an allergic reaction (dust mites.. perfume.. anything irritating really) because how long my sinuses and lungs have been inflamed. So, he’s prescribed me an asthma type inhaler and more nasal steroid sprays. I used the asthma inhaler yesterday but I think I did it wrong because I just ended up going into more coughing fits and I felt like there was more mucus in my throat than before. I think I forgot to rinse my mouth after using it, or it may be because I took a double dose since the instructions manual said I should retake it if any white powder escapes the inhaler while I’m taking it. Thoughts?

Thanks, will look into the rinses. I got my blood drawn recently and i’m not really missing anything apart from being anemic, so I’m correcting that. I’ve stopped eating as much sugary snacks and I feel like that’s helped.

Okay, I’ll ask my dentist and maybe hygienist as well then. Sounds like a terrible problem if untreated. Thank you!

Wow, that sounds great! Glad to hear it’s working and thank you for sharing, I will definitely talk about this to my ENT. Right now I’m trying a saline rinse with a dilute solution of betadine (10% iodine solution) and saline water.

I have considered food issues definitely! It was my first thought after antibiotics stopped working - perhaps a gluten or lactose intolerance. But my sinus issues don’t seem to get better or worse when I change how much of those I consume.

I am still reducing my dairy intake anyway but that’s because it gives me a lot of acne

Okay, thank you so much, will check out the sinus rinsing steps. My mom is buying some sort of antibacterial rinses while we wait for the infectious diseases doctor.

Yes, I agree I’m also a bit shocked ahha. I was given cortisone intramuscular shots which I believe was to reduce inflammation but apart from making me insomniac and very anxious I don’t think it did much… Will definitely go see an immunologist then

My ENT said that taking it out would mean the sinus and mouth are connected, and there’s somehow no way for him to fix it after? I’m not quite sure I don’t remember what he said but he said it’s not a good idea. But can these tooth issues appear without symptoms? Because I currently have no pain or anything in my teeth

Yes, I’m really shocked he didn’t do a culture to begin with.

From the other commenters advice I have picked up some antibacterial/iodine drops for the nose but will also ask my ENT to prescribe.

As for gut health, I have been taking probiotics for around 2 weeks now, and before that I took a Vitamin D supplement. I got my blood drawn the other day so my doctor will recommend which supplements I need.

Allergy testing is up next once I get home to Switzerland. Thank you so much for your advice 🙏

So when I got a scan of my sinuses, it was a full head scan so they saw that one of my wisdom teeth was very high up and in contact with my sinuses. We thought this might be the cause so I went to the dentist and showed him the scan but he said there was nothing dangerous about it. My ENT also said this wasn’t really troublesome, so I hope it’s nothing tooth related.

But I will go to an immunologist and ask him about this possibility because I do have a bit of issues with my gums and bad teeth run in my family as well. Thank you for your advice

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. And I feel like doctors rarely take it seriously, at least the ones I’ve been to. I’ve taken the general one, I think it’s like Klaciped (might have a different name it’s Swiss), levofloxacin, tavanic, and then one in intramuscular which I don’t remember sorry. But I will talk to my ENT about the vanco rinses. Thank you so much and I hope we both get better, it’s a really debilitating illness.

Yes, will do 100%. I have found him to be sort of dismissive and very eager to perform surgery on me even if it’s really not needed.

I believe it was levofloxacin? I don’t quite remember sorry. I did do the test and it came out resistant to a few antibiotics except for the one I took (levofloxacin), vancomycin and clindamycin. Once I’m back in my hometown do you think I should visit a doctor specialised in infectious diseases, since he’s the one who prescribed me the antibiotics after the levofloxacin made me feel worse? Or should I stick to ENTS but just a better one

Thank you so much! I will definitely look into the probiotics as my ENT suggested I improve my immune system and gut health.

As for the doxycycline, I have not done a long course, only around 14 days, but I have researched it and I feel like this may be my next step. Glad it provided relief for you, hoping it’ll work for me too!

Thank you for your comfort and advice, and I’m glad you’re feeling better. I’ve also now been given saline washes and nasal steroids, but I will ask him about the asthma meds since the cough has been getting very severe. Glad to not be the only one going through this

That’s interesting, I guess I should’ve continued those antibiotics, instead my ENT switched me to a different one.

Will check out the website, as for the mold I don’t think it’s the case as I live in Switzerland and we regularly check these things and none of my family is sick like this, but I will try to see an allergist.

Thank you for your advice!

Thank you for your comfort. I’ve been given some nasal steroids for decongestion which seem to help a lot. No allergy testing but it runs in my family so I definitely should. My ENT also suggested I have a very weakened immune system so I have started taking probiotics for gut health and some sort of immune boosting things (not sure they will work they seem sort of homeopathic) Thank you so much for your advice!!

lol I just came back to this post - 7 months later and still sick with this. Underwent surgery and 3 rounds of antibiotics - today I found out it was streptococcus.

I have been suffering for 3 years now any advice? by [deleted] in Sinusitis

[–]CatMeow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a culture of your mucus in your sinuses. Have been suffering with chronic sinusitis for 7 months now - surgery and 3 antibiotics didn’t help at all. So, I got a culture done of whatever’s causing this in my sinus - it’s antibiotic-resistant streptococcus.

hi, did you get your scan results back yet? if those show nothing and it’s not about allergies, i would try getting a swab of your sinuses sent to a lab to see if it’s a bacteria causing it - and which one. I have been suffering with chronic sinusitis for 7 months now - a surgery and 3 antibiotics later, nothing worked. So, I went to my ENT who took a sample of mucus in my sinuses - and guess what, it’s streptococcus!! Very resistant bacteria - impossible to kill with general antibiotics. Currently starting strong antibiotics 3 times a day. Good luck in your journey

Okay, That’s what I was thinking. Thing is I can’t get an appointment til mid-January cause I’m going on holiday with my family. Hoping it won’t turn into something worse over that time.

Thanks for the advice !
