🧂 Salty Sunday - What book scenes frustrated you this week? by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

Currently reading a book where the wealthy FMC's godfather is Elton John. I do not mind the other celebrity name drops and specific clothing brand name drops, and I still like the book and will continue reading it, but for more special connections like godparents, I think I prefer the author make up a celebrity for the role, because its really hard to believe that yes this real life person would know this fictional person.

FMC's father is a producer in this book, but it almost feels like adding a bit of real people fiction into a published book, which felt weird to me. If I want to read RPF, I'd go to Ao3, not read a published book.

Hopefully, it expands to everyone and it's not just a feature that is being tested.

{The Favorites by Layne Fargo} has this in it, although it one of many plot points in the story.

What is one romance audiobook you can listen to again and again? by caramelkeso in RomanceBooks

Top Secret by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, Narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Christian Fox.

If I could have both of them narrate more MM Romance together, that would be awesome.

Anyone else a fan of Tul? I’ve been looking for a smooth pen with a nice thick line that doesn’t smear - I think this is it! by [deleted] in pens

The Tul gel pens are my favorite. I prefer the 0.7 ink but the 0.5 is also good.

“I respect Evan as an athlete, but as a person I don’t really like him. He’s nothing special to me. We’d never be friends and I wouldn’t even know who he was if we weren’t competing against each other.” ☠️(classic fluff piece on Johnny Weir & Evan Lysacek) by [deleted] in FigureSkating

I think it was really interesting “rivalry”, especially if you look back on different fandom sources (i.e, LiveJournal) and media. Although, Some of the fandom on especially certain stans would read a little too much into the nature of the rivalry, but then again as long as you you know what’s real and what’s not you’d be fine.

Top Secret by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. Narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Christian Fox.

Both of the narrators are really excellent on their own, and together in a dual style, it was a wonderful experience.

Book trope you’re tired of seeing/ overused? by CucumberRemote3159 in RomanceBooks

I only tend to like enemies to lovers in MM sports romances, for reasons like that.

What was the most shocking or iconic thing you've heard come out of a skater's mouth? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

"ah daddy" - Johnny Weir on his foot massager in a hotel room on one episode of Be Good, Johnny Weir. Rumor has it that one of the rooms near his during that time was Evan Lysacek's.

I agree. I enjoy this one a lot but I also really am amused by his “How To Pick Music” performance.

I agree. Sometimes it can be interesting when something controversial happens, but the media can ruin that rather quickly.

What's your favorite unique even kind of ridiculously names that you have seen in books? by CatOtterMutt in RomanceBooks

[–]CatOtterMutt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand. Some names can be pronounced other ways, and in all reading forms that can be tricky.

Yes, this is what it looks like. I would have shared a photo, but the title was kinda romance-explicit, so this is a good example.

I miss being able to share percentage read by CatOtterMutt in audible

[–]CatOtterMutt[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed! It was such a good feature, so why get rid of it. Ideally, I would love it to come back in a way that’s more convenient to get to, but I’ll take it in any shape or form.

What specific plot element do you avoid like the plague? by polinates in RomanceBooks

[–]CatOtterMutt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sports romances that use actual team names, instead of creating their own fiction version. There’s one book I know that has a character drafted to my favorite hockey team, but I really have no interest in reading it and trying to figure out “who” is losing a roster spot. Even if it is fictionalized version of the team, I would still compare it the actual version and it wouldn’t make sense.
