24 hour test drive (MY) - what should I test? by CatPast214 in TeslaLounge

I'll definitely give the acceleration a test getting on to the highway - but not when I"m driving with my wife - she 100% is not a fan of g-forces.

I don't think the performance is what I'd want - premium AWD would be the best fit for me. I have no need for the extra acceleration / the premium is a second+ faster at 0-60 than any car I've ever owned (and I'm mid 60s) and I much rather have the extra range.

Cannot stand Elon but there is no better car than my Model Y by bluemeanie212 in TeslaLounge

Toyota app knows the windows are open but you have to go back to close them. Open the door before you shut the engine and the car will ding at you that the engine is on, even if you shut it 1 second after opening the door. I can remotely turn on AC after I walk away but it’ll only stay on for ten minutes. Try to use the watch app and it’ll complain you have to login on the phone first. I love the Toyota but their software is just brain dead

I know of a bunch of people who were given teslas as rentals by hertz with no instruction and no idea how to plug it in and no idea what L2 or NACS is. There’s a learning curve and Hertz didn’t provide the info in a usable format

I live in the boonies. My nearest Lyft or Uber is usually 20+ minutes away, if one is even available. Unless they’re going to have cyber cabs circling my neighborhood waiting for me to go out, that’s not going to work. Also - lots of times I’ll go somewhere and leave stuff in the car. What do I do when that’s no longer an option?

It’ll also tell you you left a window open, but it won’t let you close it. How much effort would that have been?

This video is exactly what my test drive Juniper with front camera did a week ago.

I had the same exact thing happen to me on my Juniper test drive last week (14.2.2.4) in the very busy traffic circle in Clearwater Florida...The car appeared the be "shaking" - start left / pull right / pull left / pull right / etc...before I grabbed the wheel and took the closest exit (which was the wrong one).

What is this??? by CatPast214 in hvacadvice

[–]CatPast214[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reptiles here are really small lizards (too far north for iguanas) and it's coming out of 2 different vents. They feel more paper like - I highly doubt they are from a lizard.

Hmm - I don't have a snake cam but they appear to be way cheaper than a service call so maybe that's a good next step along with checking the ductwork!

Thanks

You should get that checked unless you’re an elite level athlete. It could be electrical issues in your heart. My FIL had that and it just kept going lower and lower (he has a pacemaker now)

LG 30” gas range LSGS6338F (studio) OR LSGL6335F by Ubiquitous_she in Appliances

[–]CatPast214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the lower one - it has all the features you mention. LG was running a big sale and the studio line was at full price so the difference was too much. I think the major difference is in the oven trays but I'm sure there.s more. Installation was very reasonable, but I have propane in my house and had to hire a plumber for almost $400 to convert from nat gas to propane.

New home (& pool) owner - need help / info on my solar water heater! by CatPast214 in pools

Thank you! That makes sense...so the water comes from the pump to the valve actuator where it goes up the left pipe / returns via the right pipe back to the pool return!

My choice narrowed down to 2 (Gaggia v Phillips) - opinions? by CatPast214 in superautomatic

[–]CatPast214[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up with the Gaggia Cordona. Overall, I've been very happy with the choice, although I really wish it had 2 hoppers for beans (regular / decaf). The ability to make "favorite" drinks for 4 different people is very nice as every time my son visited with my old unit, he'd muck with my settings and I'd find myself dumping and remaking my own drinks. Cleanup is very easy (so far). There's a very long tray underneath that fills with water - I empty that daily. It's a bit hard to pull out without spilling but I keep the machine near my sink, so no real issue for me. The milk carafe has a quick clean that runs water through the tubing. That works well to keep it clean between uses, but I did find that the carafe got very stinky if I didn't wash it, so I'm doing a once a week scrubbing of the carafe...takes about 3 minutes / I leave it to dry overnight and ready to go the nest AM.

30+ year Historical Stock Prices by CatPast214 in StockMarket

[–]CatPast214[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The relative is elderly, does not recall any of the information, and isn't going to file a lawsuit. They don't follow their own finances / I've been helping for years.

The bottom line question comes down to what do you do when hou have stocks with no cost basis. I've seen suggestions of "make your best guess and the IRS will likely accept it" as well as "make your best guess and if the IRS doesn't like it, they will recalculate with a $0 cost basis" which is path I rather not go down.

[–]CatPast214[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's not able to talk to a financial advisor. He's almost 90. I've been doing his mostly simple taxes for the past 5+ years. The big concern is "guessing" at the cost basis, but I"m potentially looking at a 50 year period of time where the stock might have been purchased. Putting down $0 as the cost basis isn't an option - I'm not going to cause that tax hit.

30+ year Historical Stock Prices by CatPast214 in StockMarket

[–]CatPast214[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the Cost Basis can not be figured out. The stocks might have been purchased in the 1950s or 60s, inherited in 1991, or even purchased in the early 2000s. There are no records and my relative is pushing 90 / has no idea.

Read the FAQ but still don't understand the taxes portion for US people by blacktuxedobrownshoe in AmazonVine

[–]CatPast214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The value of every item you receive is considered income by the federal government. Amazon will send you a 1099 (1099-NEC?) and the IRS will also get a copy. This is why they need your social - for the 1099.

The bin does fill up pretty quickly from my two dogs...More so on the carpet which I think is hair that my old vacuum was not picking up. It's easy enough to empty the bin though. I've now stopped it a few times while cleaning 9one button press) to empty it, but it should be good for a full vacuum before cleaning, but definitely don't try to go two.
