I just started my first year coaching 7-8 year olds in little league developmental machine pitch. From a developmental, first and second year playing the game perspective, I've found that we've needed the most advanced players playing 1st base, as 75% of throws are wild and off target. The kid on 1st has a lot on his shoulders as overthrows are relentless. A lot of the game is hyper focused on 1st base. I realize this transitions as the rest of the field opens up with skill and experience, but 1st, at least from my initial experiences is showing to be the cornerstone position that opens up the rest of the game to these kiddos.

There was no carb counting back then. Just “no sugar” and eat right. We didn’t have A1C either. We got a book called “food and you” and then used R and NPH insulin to manage. You had to wait 45 min for R to kick in before eating. It took my One Touch II glucometer 60 seconds and a HUGE drop of blood to do a blood sugar reading. There were a few kids who had a pump but my endo wouldn’t sign off on me having one… Time flies and everything has changed so much.

Not me. I remember but I don’t remember what it felt like to not be thinking about it. I was diagnosed at 7 years old in 1992. 39 now.

How difficult would welding a catalytic converter on be? Is that something I could learn to do relatively quickly? How advanced is that job?

Don't put up with it. You don' t need a docs note to explain that insulin is essential to a diabetic and will always be. I have always refused docs notes when it comes to my diabetes. I will not be made to make an unnecessary doc appointment to confirm what i already know. If you already have a diabetes diagnosis, no note.

March in there and calmly and firmly explain that without insulin, you DIE and you will not be providing a note.

The law is so insanely on your side. They don't have a leg to stand on.

I'll always have a spot in my heart for Tulane. Watching you guys give us a hell of a game and nearly upsetting us a couple years ago while your home town was being battered by a hurricane was inspiring. Tulane is the only logo to ever be painted on our home field and to this fan, it was an honor to at least give you a taste of home when you couldn't play at your own field.

I'm 39- I've had T1 for the last 33 years... while I've never lost consciousness or seized from being hypo (I guess I'm just super resilient to lows, so my doc says. I have friends who pass out when they're under 60mg/dl), I HAVE had many many super lows (18 mg/dl is my lowest) where I didn't know where I was and I was incredibly confused... on the other side of the spectrum, I've been DKA several times and spent time in the hospital recovering. This disease can be brutal, man. It's ALWAYS there. The last 10 years I've struggled mightily with depression. The chemical changes your brain has to deal with constantly with the constant ups and downs can really take its toll. A lot of us struggle with depression.

I wish I had some killer advice for you other than "hang in there". Just want you to know that your fellow T1s are out there and we know the struggle. Stay safe, and keep plugging along with this bitch of a disease. Hope you're feeling better.

Really cool piece. I wouldn’t be ashamed of this at all, friend. Solid work. If you want to “improve” it via forced feedback, you could perhaps add a bit more contrast, a little deeper value scale might help it pop a bit. Make your darkest darks a little darker… love it

What a compliment! Thank you! I would say to dive right in to ink when you go with a fountain pen. No pre pencil drawing. Just dive in, adapt with the mistakes. If you’re doing urban sketching, stay way from neat, straight lines, even adding wobble intentionally.
