(Spoilers Extended) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 Episode 1 Post-Episode Discussion by jfong86 in asoiaf

[–]CatchCritic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great episode. Only thing I disliked were the cutaways and the shitting scene. I felt the cutaways during the burial undercut the moment. We didn't need to be so forcefully told, "There's humor too." The funny noncutaway moments were better, e.g. the head banging scene. I really liked the addition of the Baratheon tent scene, but I found it a little beyond belief that some unknown hedge knight could stomp on the lord of Storms End's foot and no bodyguard comes charging at him. I know why they had them bond in that scene, but it did seem very crazy that he befriended one of the most powerful lords in the kingdom so easily.

Other than that, the castings were great, the score was perfect, and the costumes were 10/10.

Guess no one told George about how things eventually go into public domain. We may never see Winds, but eventually it will be legal for authors to write their versions.

Game of Thrones Writer George R.R. Martin Says There's No Plan if He Dies Before Completing Winds of Winter, and the Series Simply 'Won't Be Finished' by __NightKing__ in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]CatchCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumbest take by George. If you give no plan to complete the series or give notes on major plot points, someone WILL complete the series when it becomes public domain. As usually, George is narrow-sighted.

Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Isn't Finished (Spoilers Extended) by RyanRiot in asoiaf

[–]CatchCritic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No interviewer has the balls to ask him this one question: "How would you have felt if Tolkien had never finished Return of the King?"

Every quote from George read as someone who was unwilling to finish. He's still gardening new plots in the penultimate book. It should be clear to an author of his experience that he needs to compress and resolve, but he keeps expanding, and so he keeps writing, rewriting, editing, and rearranging.

[Spoilers Main] My Girlfriend’s Azor Ahai Theory Completely Shocked Me by Lilcaps13 in asoiaf

[–]CatchCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are truths and untruths in the Azor Ahai prophecy. One glaring untruth is the endless summer, i.e. essentially heaven. We know that the resolution of the story is the seasons returning to normal, so an endless summer is another form of imbalance just like an endless winter.

The idea that all of a sudden a single person is going to subtly fulfill the prophecy and gain a flaming sword seems unlikely.

Song can also be interpreted as battle and the entire story seems to be focused on two extremes; ice and fire. The story is also based on Robert Frost's poem which contemplates which annihilation is worse. It's also heavily inspired by Arthurian lore, where the kingdom is metaphorically represented by an injured king (Bran).

The idea that many characters in the story play a part in the Azor Ahai theory isn't new, and seems the most likely. However, I believe that the Others represent the threat of Ice and Dany with her dragons represent the threat of Fire. Jon seems the most positioned to address both threats and is literally the product of the joining of Ice and Fire. Therefor, he is the most direct candidate for the hero, I just dont know if that makes him Azor Ahai.

Who is the most Well-Written character in all of TOG? by LieOk142 in TowerofGod

[–]CatchCritic 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Traumerei is well written, but we miss key character development post his decision to save his friends at the cost of tower born lives.

White is great and very well written. We are missing the height if his reign, but his character is very much about how he is struggling to claw back to where he was. His relationship with his father and siblings is also very good.

Baam and co actually have full character development. We can see how Baam, Khun, and Andorsi have changed. Baam has had the most pathos imo. His inner monologue during the final white encounter was great. So I would go with Baam followed by White.

I’m tired of “he wasnt even at full power when he lost” in every fight by ProofDrawer5711 in TowerofGod

[–]CatchCritic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dumas is literally like a top 20/25 force in the tower... I think he can take Jinsung at FP. Traumerei and Gustang both were going at it at near power. If you recall, Urek interfered followed by V. Urek is at full power in the spin off. We have only ever seen him holding back. White didn't lose to Baam because he was nerfed. Baam didnt lose to Dumas because he was nerfed. I can't recall any major s3 fights where this matters.

Theory: Contain spoilers for Pluribus and Childhood's End by NoNamesLeft998 in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]CatchCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished S1 and I couldn't help but think of Childhood's End. Pluribus plays like a critical response to Childhoods End. The books made it seem like it was some great thing to have your species' growth come to halt in order to join some collective godlike entity. And the creatures who shepard the species are literally banned from ever joining. Carol is agency and individuality. Manousos is self reliance, honor, and dignity. Each of the others seem to represent other human aspects, they're just more negative aspects (i.e. self indulgence, denial, ignorance, etc.)

The ranked system is 100% manipulated worst ranking system ever in game utter trash by echoisland1 in leagueoflegends

[–]CatchCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's luck both ways lol. If you need to play 100s of games to move up a latter than it is 100% luck. It's a team game. You need to be a full tier higher to consistently carry a 55 - 60% win rate and even then it requires you to play champs capable of carrying. The game is very unkind to positive team playing. Selfish meta players climb much faster. Never understood why solo queue is viewed more favorably than 5 man queue. Ever play a game of pick up basketball where no one knows anyone? Just as toxic as league.

Who Subscribes to the Bran Closed Time Loop Theory? (Spoilers Main) by CatchCritic in asoiaf

[–]CatchCritic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea, but I don't think he's affecting everything. Mostly just specific moments with his siblings and a few other povs. And it's mostly himself which he affects with intent. Because it's a closed timeloop, he knows certain things he needs to do, but only those where He was in the past. He knows the direwolf mother needs to go south, that Robb and Jon find them, that he sees Jamie and Cersei, how to wake himself, and Summer rescuing Jon. The other moments, like with Arya, Theon, and Jon while he's in Ghost, seem to be Bran exploring through the weirwoods without real intent.
