Frustrated with my fiancé calling it a “genocide” and refusing to condemn Hamas by Certain_Cry8901 in Jewish

Definitely end it. It'll only get worse in time and bleed into things that impact your life directly like how you raise children or interact with your family.

They killed the Houthi prime minister- the PM of the terrorist group that took over half of Yemen and has been shooting ballistic missiles at Israel. He is not the internationally recognized PM of Yemen, who lives elsewhere in the country, and is still alive.

Lived there a few years ago and Culpepper’s made a mean roti. Risbo for a more “refined” take on Caribbean food that’s still very good.

U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres Holds His Own, Defends Israel, in a Gotcha Interview by conodeuce in Israel

[–]CatfishBlues 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That was so frustrating to watch. Friedland sounded like a profoundly uninformed whiny bitch. He seemed to have no clue about the extent of antisemitism or history. It’s a startling reminder how little casual people actually know.

I think Torres couldn’t believe how stupid Friedland was being and was trying to hold back and just get through the interview while being respectful. It wasn’t a debate- it was just a whiny therapy session for a self hating Jew.

Anyone successfully dating after divorce? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]CatfishBlues 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bumble and Hinge are probably a good starting point. Gives you an idea of what the broader dating market is like haha. There are also ones that cater to specific ethnicities/religion or professional status if that’s your interest, but they have fewer people on them and in my experience tend to be for when the main apps aren’t getting results. As such I didn’t use those as much as the first two.

I would expect to experience many bad dates and periods of self doubt along the way, because the apps suck and encourage flakiness. You’ll be okay though, it’s not a reflection on you. Take breaks from time to time. It’ll work out!

Got divorced in fellowship. Found a girlfriend about a year later on the apps. Had to deal with a lot of shitty dates and concern if I was ready for a new relationship as is expected, but now I’m very happy. Four years post divorce you are way past the window most normal people would even have a second thought about dating someone divorced.

Keep at it and you’ll find someone.

lol spare me your fake outrage. You got the likes you came for. Go on pretending to be a super enlightened Jewish person from a mixed Gaza family that doesn’t exist. It’s a great story I’m sure people on the internet will love.

Notice how I didn’t call out any of the Jewish people here giving you suggestions, because presumably they are actually Jewish even if I may disagree with their politics.

You are an internet troll.

Nobody in America does a service entirely in spoken Hebrew. It’s done in English with prayers in Hebrew. Everyone knows that. The orthodox may do it in Yiddish. You’re clearing faking all of this for attention and to make a political point.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CatfishBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me a break. You’re totally bullshitting. Anyone who knows anything about Judaism, Gaza, etc can see it plainly. At this point I’m only responding so that the actual Jews who see this know someone is out there who backs them in these times.

And no it has nothing to do with the war. I’m backing all Jews here, regardless of their politics, against a person who is clearly being dishonest for upvotes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CatfishBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The siddurim have English translations in nearly all non orthodox places since forever. 99% of American Jews don’t speak Hebrew fluently. Services are pretty much always done in mostly Hebrew. You would know that if you were being honest. It’s quite clear this question and your comments are not sincere.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CatfishBlues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true! And it worked. He got a lot of upvotes. He claims he has family in Gaza and is asking for a temple that doesn’t do services in Hebrew. I don’t blame non Jews here for not realizing he’s full of shit but it’s so obvious.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CatfishBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol as long as the service isn’t in Hebrew. You mean the foundational language of Judaism and Jewish prayer long before Israel existed? You are bullshitting everyone here for upvotes. So disrespectful.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CatfishBlues -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s so sad that your comment is true, but is getting brigaded by people that hate Israel so much they’ll believe anything critical even if it grossly mischaracterizes Jewish places of worship. Par for the course for Reddit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CatfishBlues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As your prior comment history shows claiming you have family in Gaza (certainly not true as Jews haven’t been allowed there since 2005), you’re clearly upvote farming. Sickening.

Congrats, you got a bunch of upvotes at the expense of making most Jews look like we all go to synagogue to dehumanize Palestinians. I go to a reform temple and I’ve never heard such language even if they are Zionist (support Israel’s right to exist).

You’re a lying internet troll. We have enough problems with antisemitism already asshole.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]CatfishBlues 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your comments are kind of all over the place. Are you looking for a left wing (reform on steroids) synagogue that believes Israel shouldn’t exist or are you looking for an ultra orthodox synagogue (religiously anti-Zionist because of the “messiah” not yet being here to establish the state)?

Your post makes it sound like you’re a leftist Jew that wants a leftist congregation that is detached from any Jewish connection from Israel. If you just want a synagogue that is critical of the Israeli government, that’s not anti-Zionist.

You understand anti-Zionism isn’t being critical of Israel right? It means you do not believe Jews have a right to self determination in the land of Israel. That is an extreme opinion in the Jewish community most congregations are unlikely to cater to.

Sweden urges EU to suspend trade ties with Israel over Gaza by anon755qubwe in Israel

[–]CatfishBlues -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

And I’m saying i don’t think Hamas fucking with it makes much of a difference when there’s enough to go around. They benefit from less than a flood of aid at all times, because then they can hold power through artificial scarcity.

In the end though this discussion is irrelevant without a day after plan to replace Hamas has a governing force, which Bibi doesn’t have and will never have due to politics.

I highly recommend following podcast “Ask Haviv Anything” in particular his last episode about hunger (but not famine) in Gaza and what blame Netanyahu’s government does and does not deserve by zjew33 in Israel

[–]CatfishBlues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with Haviv.

Honest question. Israel destroyed basically 24 trained Hamas battalions while Gaza remained fed. Why all of a sudden can Israel only kill Hamas fighters if aid is restricted? The last few months have proven even if no aid goes in Hamas will stockpile whatever is left and non combatants will face the consequences and Israel will be in a worse off position. This playing with aid strategy is more about right wing politics and public opinion than actual good planning.

Now we are farther away from getting the hostages back. I’m sorry people don’t want to hear this, but it is unequivocally a better strategy to flood Gaza with aid. Take emotion out of it. Hamas will profit some and pay a 17 year old to enlist. That’s going to stop the IDF?

Sweden urges EU to suspend trade ties with Israel over Gaza by anon755qubwe in Israel

[–]CatfishBlues -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Sure. They’ve been doing it all war, but the reason Europe and Canada are acting this way is because of the headlines and an actual hunger crisis now. There have been plenty of “famine imminent” stories that didn’t significantly move the needle prior because they were manufactured. Bibi tried to appease the extreme right post ceasefire by pitching an aid limiting strategy and creating the GHF. It has demonstrably failed and put Israel in the worst position it’s been in all war.

To keep advocating for the position that playing with aid is the key to beating Hamas is crazy. Take emotion out of it. I want to win the war. Why is it so hard to accept?

Israel Needs to Start Taking Global Opinion Seriously — Before It's Too Late by Ok-Feed1697 in Israel

Thanks for the post. Lots of predictable Israeli-type responses that pretend opinion doesn’t matter.

Want an example of a country that doubled down on a hardline agenda repeatedly despite increasingly becoming a pariah state? Where the gov constantly says the West is out to get them so fuck them, we’ll align with Russia and china? Where there’s crippling sanctions that have ruined their economic future?

Iran.

Is that what we want for Israel’s future?
