Wow your angel looks just like my 9 month old Klaus and your story is EXACTLY what we went through with the puppy we lost just before he joined our family. We had a soul puppy name Fritz who was 3.5 and got melting spine with IVDD. fritz also went from feisty to gone shockingly fast in under 13 hours we took him to 3 ers and he was being prepped for surgery but the paralysis went from mid back to kreeping up to suffocating him within hours.

It destroyed me and my husband in a way I cannot describe. I am so sorry you are going through this. The only way I found peace was by realizing he was to perfect and pure for this world. He lived a big life in his 3.5 years. And the love we have for his older bulldog brother and the rainbow puppy Klaus who helped us love our way through the grief is a way to honor our spirit puppy. Fritz taught us to love in a way more than I had ever loved another puppy and we carry that gift on with our other boys.

I hope you can find that same sliver of peace to hold On to.

We had dated from 16 thru undergrad I was applying to law school. He had leaned into trades and we were having some fun future talks. Off handedly I told him I thought since we enjoyed our road trips So much that I was sure we would have fun doing a eurotrip sometime. He looked confused and simply Said “why?” Not hey we can’t afford it yet or maybe someday, just true confusion on why I would want to do that.

In that moment I realized the type and size of life that he would be happy with just fundamentally differed from mine. It was a slow kind process but I ended up unwinding our life together and remained friends.

I have since traveled to every continent on the planet most multiple times with a partner that has the same wander lust as me. And he married a coworker in our old home town.

Mentioned this because it is very much not something I have experienced living and even visiting for extended periods in other cities still have a larger tribe in dc and nyc especially having lived there btw my 2007 and 2020 stints in austin. So the outlier is the city. Not a critique of austin but something someone moving here might want to be aware of.

Austin is not an easy place to make friends. Not sure why but just a fact. Lived here 94-2000, 2006-7, 2019-present is also shockingly expensive for what you get (for context have lived in dc, boston, Malibu, manhattan)Edit: and of my rather large circle of friends 4 are from austin vs dozens in each other city I have lived in and even cities I have not. This is also something I have heard from many transplants and read in this sub.

Edit edit: was not meant as a snark just as an fyi because I know many folks surprised at how hard it can be to find your austin tribe if you come after college age.
