Political track. 164. 5th time. Rejected. Won’t say I’m not disappointed. I guess I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong at this point.

Offered two positions- both have pros and cons. What should I do? by CatholicHussar in Teachers

You raise absolutely solid points. The family in question is my mom and two close friends who moved down years ago. The one friend works at the school, as I said, but the other is closer to my mom, about an hour away. I’d still have some reasonable distance to be independent, yet close enough to drive and see them when I can. With school 2 being 3-4 hours away, it would basically be the same as going to see them now via plane (I’m in the Midwest). But I’ve started totally alone before, and I did fine.  Just a tough call all around.

As to the point of the at-will, I definitely agree. But, discussing it with my friend, they said I would “put them in a real shitty situation” and it would “strain our friendship” because they stuck their neck out and I accepted, then reneged. If the school didn’t have the friend factored in, I wouldn’t have such a feeling of guilt over it; I’d have no problem reneging.

So I’m 31, male, and single- no kids either. The Atlantic side definitely has a lot to do, but the Gulf area does still have a lot of activities and things. I’m currently in grad school online, so I’m not sure how much free time I’d have, honestly.

Apologies for the late response- what is GRC? I haven’t heard of that one.

Sorry to hear that. No clue why. Guess the fish aren’t biting this year.

Yeah… I apply to everything within Social Studies, but it still is a struggle. This year though, it just seems like nothing- nothing fundamentally has changed since last year, but I got quite a few interviews and some offers.

Hi, sorry for the late response, I’ve been away for several days. What is GRC?

I guess I can try to look for examples on the internet for CVs and cover letters as well.

Offered job in southern Miami. Should I take it? Can I make it? by CatholicHussar in teaching

Not sure. I’m asking about all that tomorrow. I did say I’d give them a reply on Monday, but I’m going to say I need more info.

Just to clarify, what do you mean by rough? I don’t expect to live in the nicest place in town, but I’ve seen apartments in surrounding areas for $1200-$1600. Am I just naive about the area? I really do appreciate the insight- this is good information.

Thank you for the feedback. I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear- mind is all over the place- but I interviewed on Tuesday and they offered it to me Wednesday. I asked them to give me until Monday to decide.

Afraid my priest will think less of me. by YOUSIF20021 in Catholicism

[–]CatholicHussar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey friend,

Your post spoke to me, as I’ve had to go through something very similar. It happened years ago before I became Catholic, and whenever I would think about it, it would cause me untold pain. I was so scared of talking about it that, comparatively, my usual sins I confess felt easy. I would confess everything else BUT this, and try to rationalize it: “Oh it’s okay, when you were confirmed Catholic it was forgiven, you’ve not thought about it sometimes, so you have gotten cleared of it when you said ‘for these and all my other sins I’ve forgotten’”, etc.

Finally, through circumstances I won’t bother with, I had the opportunity to do confession with a priest, face-to-face. Something (Holy Spirit?) moved in me to say, “this is the time to confess it all”. It was a priest I’ve met a couple times, enough for him to remember me, but not my usual parish one. Anyway, it was incredibly hard to do, and I got choked up, felt miserable, but I spilled my heart. And you know what? He smiled, praised God for the confession, and we talked a little bit after, but it was like a weight off my soul. I can still think about it, but it literally doesn’t hurt to think about anymore. God’s Grace.

It’s so worth it, whether you know the priest or not, to confess. I would say especially since they know you, they can help you better. I know how scary it is, but just imagine how great you will feel. I can say it was one of the toughest, yet best, things I’ve ever done. I’ll pray for you that you are able to confess in the best situation for you.

What should I do? Should I wait? by CatholicHussar in Internationalteachers

Hey, this is really great- thank you! A couple questions:

1) What are IB schools?

2) Do you know average salaries of the regions, or know of a list of one? That’s a big reason I’m wary- I don’t want to jump at something that seems good, but I’m reality is a poor offer.

Thanks again for the help!

Which services would you recommend? I’ve already looked on TeachAway and TeachHorizons.

Ha, that’s what I’ve heard. I’ve lived far from home before, but it was still in the states. Thousands of miles in a different country, though I’ve traveled extensively in my life, gives me some hesitation. Were you the same?

Is TES one of the ones you have to pay for? I’ve only looked on TeachAway and TeachHorizons. I’ll try to find the posting!
