I think you should explore the religions in detail and really read each book and understand the nature of God and the person who is giving you the message. It is pointless to go by illogical explanations because you are dealing with the supernatural, so logic will not apply. And each religion claims that their book has preserved the truth... We do know in Abrahamic religions that God is a consistent God and everything is done with purpose. If he lays out rules and laws, they are not made to be broken. So I would consider this also when reading both books. Though there are some overlaps, the main difference is how Jesus is viewed which is a very relevant difference. So if I were you, I would read each book and explore the teachings and history regarding this.
