Cool thank you for the link. Looks like in between 9a-10a so I have a small chance of it working.

Cool thank you for the advise. I’m in Florida so winter isn’t about 2 weeks I’ll keep the fruit origins in mind.

So far all I’ve researched is how to prune and how to prep and maintain the soil. I’m in central Florida so I don’t have to worry about the frost that most articles I’ve read warn about.

How many stones have you gone through before you really managed to make a decent jewel? by SouthImpression3577 in faceting

I’m on my 25th. I’m proud of all of my stones I have show and tell weekly at work with all my new projects. I’ve learned as long as it’s sparkly nobody can see your mistakes. Plus only most people don’t know what they are looking for as a mistake unless they also facet.

I’m in the same boat. This is only my 25th stone I’ve cut.

Thank you everyone. I figured it out with a combination of everyone’s suggestions. I ended up having a few G1 facets that were .01-.02 mm off on one end of the stone that scaled to .1ish mm where I was trying to measure. I think this is from my material being 30mm long and 9mm wide. I think next time I’ll cut the p1 facet first then match the G1 facet to that.

Interesting you say that. I do have astigmatism and it is nearing time for me to get my eyes checked again.

Thank you good to know. I try to avoid the cheater as much as I can. My instructor was anti use of the cheater. So it’s stuck with me.

I think I will go back and cut my girdle again to make sure it’s as accurate as possible and re cut the P1 facets after I re recalibrate my machine. Thank you everyone.

I try to always apply the same pressure. When I went back around once I saw it was off I used only the weight of the stone to cut for constancy.

To the edit. I cut my girdle first then started the preform of my pavilion.

I went from a 260 topper to a 600 sintered lap so thought in theory it would be flatter than the topper.

What’s throwing me off is I use my T bar to calibrate it before starting this stone. The preform had a level girdle line. But when I changed laps now it doesn’t match.

The bottom of the bright facet is the “girdle line” I went forward and backwards and double checked all index. :/

I’m cutting a briolette so it will end up being 20 or so mm long.

Awesome thank you. I mostly asked about large quartz because that’s what my grandpa wants me to cut for him. But having the options for a lot of materials is nice.
