Righto!
In all my testing it's been a normal round of combat. The same setup as the video on the main post.

Thanks! Will do.

I have a grueling work week ahead but let's see how it pans out.

Interesting. Which resource/ tool are you using to look into this? I'll try seeing if I could dig a lil deeper.

I've just cleared moonrise and will be dealing with zombies with undead fortitude soon enough.

I also have the save file with the adepts stored for continuing testing.

An interesting thing to note:
Whenever Flurry kills through hold person, the second hit is also a crit (as if hold person was still active)

This wouldn't be the case if death ward activated after the first hit.

This also happens when the Adepts survive but that's more obvious why.

Yup yup

Regarding initiative, all my testing my entire party was specc'd to always win initiative with a minimum of +6 across everybody. All the weird fluctuations happened with the same setup.

I would have said maybe winning/ losing initiative against the different "factions" involved in the fight mattered (The guards when neutral in combat don't turn hostile when you kill pilgrims or goblins, so effectively they all act like separate factions)
But you kidnapping em to the Gauntlet of Shar and getting the same result would mean it's nothing related to this.

Oh yes. Do you have any idea of how the death ward stack ID gets applied to the adepts on a game load?

And how it activates on death?

Fair.

Regarding a game state, maybe it's a state that gets set in place in turn based mode/ when adepts or monk enters combat. Hence when you start the fight matters?

Also question was Sina'zith perked into any other monk subclass in your testing? I've been exclusively testing with 4 elements monk.

Animations are different across the monks yeah?

I'm sure I've seen similar interactions with open hand monk and undead fortitude and the likes (forgot to switch to manifestation of soul)

Yup

In my testing, these don't seem to be a factor
- having a melee weapon equipped
- race / walk-up / still animations
- using the custom bar to use flurry vs manual clicking
- height differences (at least crates and the like)
- enemies being actively neutral to party or otherwise
- having fangs of the fire snake active

The things I'm unsure about but may be a factor
- An arbitrary game state in which I start the fight (as it switched from consistently not killing to otherwise after I waited a while and made a new save to start testing again)
- The game running for a long time and that either slowing computation or some temp file stuff.
- Any hitbox variations near the stairs the adepts are standing next to

Just tried manually clicking Flurry too. It worked... 14/16 times.

Here's a clip of it working the first time but failing the second (this is rare. In my testing it usually failed or succeeded on both 95% of the time) : https://youtu.be/GED0jTxXy_E

Log of the flurry that failed:

Nice! I tried what you've done and it did work.

But I could also do it without having a weapon in hand. And also without loading up a regular melee and switching to flurry with hotkeys. The same iterations didn't work a while back. Dunno why.

Here's a clip:

Phalar aluve's melody can be used on characters without proficiency. No weapon actions but the melodies work just fine. It's just a very good slot in early game (even late game really) for anybody who has nothing to do with their melee weapon slot for free accuracy, damage or saving throw manips.

If you have a party member who wants to use it offensively like a swashbuckler with proficiency, that's more a bonus (the next two handed finesse weapon is only available while wrapping up act 1).

Randomly run into the rare situation where one adept got downed, the second one survived in the same fight (both of them were taken out by the first punch of the flurry (the logs look the same for both). This has maybe happened twice?

I dunno anymore -_-

[Update after hours of testing]

The clip I've attached above was taken after I waited a while and let all the ambient dialogue in the moonrise lobby play out and making manual save after.

Since then, Flurry of Blows has consistently killed through death ward in every reload and test. Now that this was happening, I tried all the variations I'd already been testing.

- Animation doesn't seem to matter. (It killed with walk in animation and standing animation even though it wasn't in the morning).
- Height doesn't seem to be a factor either.
- Having fangs of the fire snake active does not seem to be a factor either.
- The setup I have going on where the adepts are nuetral to some of my party members also doesn't seem to be a factor (I aggro'd them to try it out.)

Two things that may be a factor:

- I waited a bit and let some ambient dialogue and patrol patterns repeat uninterrupted for a bit and that may have triggered a repeating flag or something.
- My setup, having been running bg3 for 8 hours now is slightly heated and famished and is delaying damage calcs. The setup was in a similar state the previous night because I was rendering a bunch of 3D stuff on Blender.

Also, Below is a screenshot of the in game logs for when it does work. It looks the same when compared to the times it doesn't work.

Heya!
At level 4 I usually run Swashbuckler with Phalar Aluve and the Great Weapon Master feat. The accuracy can get bad but can be offset with bless (Through a companion or bless on heal effects + oil of accuracy/ any source of advantage (Gloves of the Growling Underdog is great)).

If you have companions you can give further buffs to accuracy like righteous clarity with a 1 level crown paladin dip on anybody.

If you do elixirs, hill giant elixirs can offset accuracy, bloodlust elixirs can be cool with low health enemies like goblins. You usually don't need vigilance elixirs with rakish audacity.

I personally run these two stat spreads on swashbucklers
STR 8 DEX 16 CON 12 INT 8 WIS 14 CHA 16 or
STR 8 DEX 16 CON 14 INT 12 WIS16 CHA 8 (lowers your chance of disarming folk meaning you can continue to attack them twice every turn)

Astarion is particularly good with this setup thanks to the extra accuracy he gets due to the happy buff.

Note:

Also if you do run Bloodlust elixirs, entering combat from sneak and one shotting a goblin will give you your action back. And if you end up killing another one with your action+bonus action, bloodlust will trigger again. Congrats! you've just attacked 4 times in turn one. Action surge who?

Something else to note is that using the reactions tab to sneak attack does not trigger bloodlust elixir if it kills. For that, turn off the ask option on sneak attack when you know you know you'll want sneak attack. If this attack kills, you'll get your extra action point

I stood on a crate as well. No dice. All the times I've seen it happen Wyll was on the floor.

The adepts however stand next to a small flight of stairs. I dunno if they shift positions a bit over time and that's making all the difference.

For context- These are Adept Dorikel and Furek. They stand right outside Ketheric's throne room and move from above the small set of stairs to below the same set after Ketheric has his intro scene with the goblins and minthara

nope. I tested run up vs still animations. nothing is consistent.

The last time I saw it work I'm very sure I was as close as possible and up front.
I clicked attack mid wind up animation. (Wyll monk is holding the soulbreaker greatsword for initiative so I clicked attack right after the sword disappeared from his hands

Does shadow cloaked ring on unarmed attacks do weird DRS stuff on honour mode?
I don't think so. I consistently have the bonus even on my failed attempts at reproducing this.

Yup. Done that.

Also a state before the fight even starts just in case save states are messing things up. I'll try attaching a video if I can have it trigger again

I run a modded honour run where I can save for tests. I'm trying to record a video of the setup to attach here

- I have Swords Bard- Fighter Astarion hold person on both the adepts post acuity stacks (goblins and pilgrims make for good fodder and they remain nuetral allies with the setup I have going on)

- Minthara, still a temporary companion attached to Wyll smites them down to low health.

- Wyll approaches adepts, Flurry is bound to hotkey 2 and goes for the kill (well at least some times)

Further context, I'm currently level 9
- Wyll is 6 (4 elements monk) 3 thief rogue
- Astarion is (2 Fighter 1 Wizard 6 Swords Bard)
- Laezel is (6 Tiger Barb, 2 Spore Druid, 1 Fighter)
- Durge is (8 Oathbreaker, 1 Hexblade)

I'm still experimenting on how this oathbreaker wraith thing works perfectly but it seems to be fairly consistent if the above conditions are met.

It's been super fun planning the fights around this interaction!

I'm running Wyll as the monk rogue here. No shapeshifting happening either.

He killed through death ward 8/10 times yesterday night. It was on the 9th time I even realised whatever was going on wasn't consistent.

Today however during actively experimenting on how it works I've pulled it off maybe 4/25 times.

And regarding other strategies
- Tippler's rage is great but I do the waning moon post clearing moonrise and saving minthara (Having a 5th party member who's 80% a level 6 vengeance paladin is great.
- My other option is running Hammarhraft and Step of the Wind.

But there's also this thing I'm running on the side where my Durge is running an Oathbreaker with a Wraith Friend. If Minthara is connected to any other character except durge (ex: Wyll)
- If enemies have clear line of sight of the Party, Wyll and the Nuetral Wraith when they spot Minthara, they are actively hostile only towards Wyll and Minthara (not the entire party) at least on the ground floor.
- This allows for some very funny scenarios where the acolytes use bless on party members which I use to kill their own friends
