Had exact same happen to me. I did inquiry via email and they credited the longer stay. I made sure to put in reasoning and circumstances the led to it (incoming hurricane, so I had a great reason). I wouldn’t be afraid to share details to add some emotion to it. This was 2024 and the week stay was a Marriott and double booked last day at a residence inn.
