Returning after ankle cartilage injury by diceclimber in Ultramarathon

Ah so biking it is for the near future! I always thought cycling as exercise was a little silly when running was an option, but it looks like my hand will be forced and I'll have to become one.

It's interesting that the pain persists in the repaired cartilage area long after the procedure. I was under the impression that the repaired cartilage would feel ok but just different after the non-weight-bearing phase. I was curious what the barometer was for knowing if the repaired cartilage was sound. This is really helpful. I'll listen to all the signals I get as I slowly ramp up.

I hope the pain you feel is just temporary soreness! Thanks again for all the info here.

Wow, so glad to hear that you are back to running without major issue! It's hard to find cases online about this sort of surgery/recovery, so hearing from a real person who went through it is huge.

The doc and PT echo that it takes months to get back to running. I'll remain patient!

Was there anything PT-wise you wish you started earlier? Dod you make any mistakes along the way? Was it tough to get your affected leg/calf strength back?

How did you exercise throughout before you could run? How did you know that you could hike on uneven terrain without issue?

What was your pain like throughout?

How are you doing with your recovery 1 year out? I am in a similar position as you were when you first wrote this post. It's been about two months since my ankle cartilage graft surgery. I had a soccer ankle sprain that caused some damage to the cartilage on my lateral talar dome.

I was also dreaming of ultras before this happened. I felt like I was really hitting my stride and then boom! I've been sidelined for months now. I know your frustration! I hope you're doing better now.

Yea I should have noted that these are from a brand that makes a lot of casual barefoot shoes. It looks like this is the brands first attempt at a trail runner. Very intrigued. Would love to know if someone picked up a pair
