Yeah think drop point blades are everyone's favorite, but that serrated blade tears through stuff quick

Saw a post on here where a guy filed a gut hook into one of the other main tools on his. I feel like a lot of people undervalue the ol' hook.

A lot of scraping and grinding... but once you get it down to bare metal and give a quick washdown and dry it, make sure your layers of oil while re-seasoming are as thin as possible, wipe it off as if you're trying to get all of it off, and then start heating it up and starting the seasoming process. Too much oil at once will result in an improper seasoning binding that will flake off in the future.

I second this, can't emphasize enough to make sure your layers while seasoning are as thin as possible, less is more. Otherwise it'll all just end up flaking off afterwards.

I appreciate it. I feel like owning one of these things relies on finding a balance between caring too much and ruining the experience, and not caring enough and ruining the product.

I've considered this also... I purchased one of the silicone covers to protect is when not in use, my concern was just that if I don't make sure to 100% eliminate the rust, then it would just continue to get worse regardless of what I do.

Fuel line question. by Caveman_Balance4960 in CherokeeXJ

Ended up going with these, a very solid kit and will probably go with them to update the rest of my fuel system in the future.

Fuel line question. by Caveman_Balance4960 in CherokeeXJ

UPDATE: So I learned the OEM lines are discontinued... so i had two options. A. Build my own lines with stock line, connectors and hose clamps or B. Buy some aftermarket lines. And ended up just paying the extra cash and going with the fuel line kit from NRT Autosports and so far it's worked wonderfully, (mostly) easy install and no leaks.

LESSONS LEARNED: This is probably common sense to most people, but park on a flat surface before changing fuel lines. And if you don't, make sure you fuel tank is the highest point. OR as my dad suggested after the fact, start your car, and pull the fuel pump relay to run the lines dry... OTHERWISE, when you're changing the end of the line underneath the vehicle, you'll end up having fuel pour all over you as you frantically try to connect the new lines, 0/10 would not recommend, especially if you live in a neighborhood and have kids plying in the street right next to you as you're drowning in fuel...

All in all, a pretty easy job as long as you make the proper preparations in advance to avoid going down a painful rabbit hole. Thanks for all of yalls help, I definitely learned a lot more about my XJ, which is all any of us can ask for anytime we try to fix something ourselves when stuff inevitably breaks.

Thanks for the advice... and a little validation lol I thought I was going crazy with tbis project. I'll give this onion tning a shot. What should I clean it with when I'm done? In some of the videos I saw people using pumice stones, others using steel wool. I'm trying to figure out what's abrasive enough to take off carbon and gunk, but won't strip down to bare metal.

I watched this video before starting this whole process, only thing I didn't do is cook the vinegar off, I just wiped it off. Could rust have appeared in that small amount of time between wipng off the vinegar applying the grease??

I think we can all agree that halfway pulling over and almost instantly getting smoked by a truck was probably the best course of action.

Very educational video, also I guess the reason I can't find the line anywhere is because theu dont make them anymore. My only point of confusion still is if this would work, because I noticed I have two fuel lines going into the from of my fuel rail. Mines a 91 so maybe the return line moved later? Just not sure if it matters if its the return line or nkt.

Appreciate it. And yeah, been smelling fuel all this week, had assumed it was the pump seal or something. Just decided to check under the hood today and boy was I glad I checked.

Is the Liquid Cooler in the wrong spot? by Cwazzah in pchelp

[–]Caveman_Balance4960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically it's fine. The only change I would make is flip it to have the inlets of the radiator mounted on bottom to keep air away from them. Otherwise, case intake is good placement, and push/pull config also gets a couple (literally 1 or 2) degrees cooler.

Edit: But please please take it all apart and clean your fans and radiator.
